Thank you, djk!
No bird for us this year, but I did do up a roast beef to share with mom & daughter. Pumpkin muffins aplenty, too.
I did not know that thanksgiving was a Canadian holiday too. Is it similar to the American holiday?
We have a holiday coming up for the Melbourne Cup. I love having a public holiday to celebrate a horse race. I will be giving thanks if I back a winner....
Mmmmm, pumpkin muffins sound yum!
Maybe I should try those instead of pumpkin bread this year.
But, my dad always made the best pumpkin bread.
I wonder if he'd feel like doing it this year, a little something to distract him,
as Mom passed the day after Thanksgiving (also the day after her b-day) last year.
Guess all I can do is ask! I have a sneaking suspicion he might be game!
Irish, I think that's a good idea.
@ Jackthetiger: Canadian Thanksgiving is a little bit like the American version, but a bit more low-key. It's celebrated mostly the same way, with turkey, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie as the traditional dinner fare. Some people celebrate it on the Sunday, others on the holiday Monday.
And some places celebrate it starting in October. :-) There's a diner here in L.A. that serves pumpkin pancakes from 10/15 to the New Year. [singing] it's the most wonderful time of the year!
chacha1@ Enjoy. We all need celebrations through the year, but three months for one day seems quite a lot! It sounds a bit like Christmas when the shops put up decorations two months before. It can make us feel a bit "Christmassed out" well before the actual day.
Ha! I was at the grocery store yesterday and the staff was putting up Christmas trees (artificial) complete with lights. The Halloween stuff is still on the shelves.....
