I have found this method works the best for me when de-cluttering! :)
ArtGal, I just ended up putting everything from my desk into a container. It is the last real area in my current uncluttering activities. It is liberating to just sit down at a clear space. (Although I had to go back really quickly and save my mouse from the box, it would have made using my computer a bit difficult. :P)
I did not put my box away, it is sitting on the floor next to me. I think if I were to clear things off one my one I would have never had the chance to realize how much I like this space. And yes, some things will be returned, my metal organizer for papers because they are needed for me to do everything I need to do. However, by cup of pens and pencils and such will be gone. I really don't need more than one out at a time.

That sounds wonderful...I feel the same way, you just don't how good space is until you see it and feel it! I figure if I haven't used it all week then either I don't need it or, at the very least, it needs to be in a drawer (out of sight.) I did the same thing in my kitchen...the only things on the counter are the microwave, a toaster oven, paper towels, a cutting board, and the breakfast cereals in glass containers...everything else went to the Goodwill or was stored in the cabinet until needed...and it was QUITE liberating! :)
