february is rocking along...into the second week already, phew!
most of the bathroom materials are assembled and standing by.
the builder is running a couple of days late, thanks to the wet weather.
no worries there.
my deadline as far as he knows, is mid-march, but really i can go to the end of march.
tomorrow i have four whole hours in the city to choose tiles. i really do have to make a decision soon.the raw vegan thing is officially ended tonight, but we both are feeling so very excellent and i have so many meal ideas that we are continuing, pretty much in the same vein.
my husband adores the free range eggs we get from a neighbour, so he will be adding those. me, not unless i feel like it.
things are on track.Posted 3 months ago # -
@bandicoot, this is really interesting, your diet seems to be quite limited (especially because of the non-cooking rule) but you seem to prefer it now. really interesting, i´ll have to think about a rew vegan diet soon :)
btw: once you mentioned that you had a recepe of (?) mixed herbs (?) to heal gums quickly. i will have to remove 2 more wisdom teeth soon, could you tell me the ingrediences/ recepe, please? i am a bit nervous because the last time i felt really bad....

Gosh, Mimi, that is a BIG party! Don't make too much work for yourself, keep it simple, and maybe ask your guests to bring something?
Big thing goalwise today: I finished the testing phase of my project!! It was an enormous amount of work which has taken the last few months up completely and I've been working on it for over a year now, but it's all finally done, hooray!! Putting a bottle of champagne in the fridge for later, I'm so happy :)Posted 3 months ago # -
I forgot to mention that we're hosting a Mardi Gras party on the 18th - fortunately, my girlfriend and her dh are helping (we're providing the venue and decorations, paper goods and a punch). Guests will each bring an appetizer or dessert, so no worries there. I just have to spend time cleaning house - thank goodness it's the week I'm off of work - I leave my current job on 2/13 and start the new one on 2/22.

16 guests staying over night? Holy smokes, Mimi, that's impressive!
Speaking of diet, I've had müsli a few mornings in a row now and feel more grounded throughout the day. Maybe there's something to it, the eating less if you've had breakfast, because I haven't had any major pangs of hunger. Bought ingredients for my own müsli, since I've almost killed the one I bought a few weeks ago - this week. Goal for February/Health, diet, is therefore to make a better müsli than I get from the store.

mimi, i don't have the exact quantities to hand, but it isn't vital. mix it to taste....it will be salty, herbally, bitter, and sweet, all at once, but really very good for the gums.
mix:
1 part fine sea salt
1 part baking soda
1 part powdered sage
1/4 part powdered myrrh
1/2 part powdered licorice root
1/4 powdered stevia
3 parts green french clay (i like argiletz brand)
1/2 part powdered charcoalsift these together.
for every cupful of mixture, add 15-20 drops of spearmint/peppermint/aniseed/teatree essential oil.
drip the eos in, and rub into the mix carefully with gloved hands.
sift several times.
store in a glass jar.
use a generous pinch on a damp toothbrush or simply swish around mouth as a mouthwash.when working with dry clays and charcoal, please ensure you are wearing a mask, with adequate ventilation.
the kaolin in clays is not to be inhaled.this stuff had my 4-wisdom-teeth-out-at-once gums healed and healthy within a week after the event.
i went for my checkup 7 days later and my dentist was wildly impressed.Posted 3 months ago # -
The first week of February has passed with only lackluster results to report on my two projects, Kitchen and Paper. I cleared the top of the sideboard on one day, sorted a mere 2 inches of papers on another day, and very little else the other five days.
Why so sluggish? This lingering cold and cough are partly to blame, and spending several days in bed reading, drinking tea, and trying to sleep myself better. Mostly, I think it's hard to get the ball rolling again after a lull, which is why daily ATADing is so helpful for me. On the plus side, I have kept my sideboard clear every single day, which is lovely. And I've written the Three Good Things journal every night, also lovely.
It's inspiring to read about everybody's good progress. I'll try for another small stack of papers right now.

i firmly believe in loads of rest when illness strikes.
it is the most efficient way to get rolling again.
please be kind to yourself ella, and take good care.
i guess the weather is a bit grim, which never helps.mimi, i was vegetarian for seven years at one time and have flirted with it ever since.
i have worked as a vegetarian chef, and run my own vegetarian lunch shop.....we were regularly eating lots of vegetarian meals already.
trying out a more raw and strictly vegan approach was a bit radical for us, but we were very curious to see how it felt.
because it felt really good....and the food has been awesome....we are just drifting along in the same vein until we get an impulse to eat something different.
i suppose my other main goal was to re-set my wicked sweet tooth. i can eat sugar like nobody's business. and i got my whiny way with sweets since last april....i broooke my leggggggg, i wanna lolleeeeeeeeeee.....was kind of how it went.....and i just had to stop it. but damn, that stuff is addictive. and for me, the cycle started first thing each day, with a couple of cups of coffee. that just set me up for a huge sugar crash every afternoon and subsequent questing for sweets.
i have hit that all on the head with tea, and fresh/dried fruit.
we process sugars in whole foods in a different way, i am convinced of that.
as for the raw bit, that was a device to encourage us into a daily big salad.
and another bonus....we both wake in the morning with clean-feeling/tasting mouths and neutral breath.
i believe my balinese friends who reckon westerners smell odd upon arrival.
a few days in bali eating balinese spices and little to no dairy products (simply not part of traditional balinese diet) and we begin to blend in, olfactorily.
apologies for the OT megillah....i enjoy conversations about food and culture.Posted 3 months ago # -
Bandicoot--I, too, noticed I smelled different when I ate meat and more junk food than since I eat almost exclusively vegetarian meals. Even my hair stays clean longer. Maybe you are indeed what you eat.
How did you talk yourself out of sweets? It is very easy to convince yourself not to eat meat, it seems, when you think about it, but sweets??Posted 3 months ago # -
i just didn't get that mad craving in the afternoon when i cut out the coffee in the morning.
my mother offered me chocolate today.....i had no problem saying no thanks, then coming home and eating a peach instead.
i am getting plenty of sugar, but it is in fruit.Posted 3 months ago # -
bandicoot, would you allow me the very intimate question of bowel movements? I'm curious to hear how your new nutritional scheme has influenced those! Everything, I believe, starts from a healthy bowel.
Posted 3 months ago # -
Roflmao oh Ninakk I thought it was only Austrians obsessed with their, uh, leavings. I have learned much about intestinal flora and fauna here, and what I must do to keep it in optimal conditions.
Do you also have the toilets with the "viewing platform"?
The expats here call in the continental shelf...Posted 3 months ago # -
my mother was " bowel" obsessed!
I had all but forgotten that little quirk...lolPosted 3 months ago # -
lol. no toilets with viewing platforms although i've had the non-pleasure of using them more than once. it's especially pleasant when the gift stays on top of it due to heavy weight instead of being nicely flushed down; problem was partly solved by placing a couple of pieces of TP as "tray" for the "gift".
Posted 3 months ago # -
Omg, I never thought of a "tray". I know the problem exactly. What a waste of water the reflushing and reflushing is!
For the rest of you for whom this is tmi, sorry!Posted 3 months ago # -
thank you veryveryvery much, bandicoot! i will translate it very carefully to make sure to get the correct things. do i need all the oils or just one// do i take 15-20 drops of each oil or 20 over all? huh, i am thrilled, that sounds like an explosion of different flavours.

i need to declutter words in february and become more precise, midimalist perhaps.

Yikes, I'm not doing so well with my goals, given that February is nearly half over. February has been a month of migraines and other obstacles. It is Saturday morning here, but I fear most of the day will be playing catch-up with cleaning, rather than focusing on specific goals per se. The pantry might finally get finished, though...if I'm lucky...
Posted 3 months ago # -
Cmon, sleepykitten, you can do it!! My pantry has been uncluttered for the last week and it's fantastic to be able to find stuff in there!
