we drink lots of tea here too!
loose leaf green tea for me ( i like to try various kinds and keep returning to buddha's tears), brewed for one minute exactly, with not-quite-boiling water, no milk or sugar.
misty mountains loose leaf black tea for the husband and he applies milk and sugar randomly.
we also both like twinings afternoon blend.best tea ever: mariages frères in paris.
four of us, four different pots of tea.
brewed to perfection by actual tea experts, trained in the art of tea.
all absolutely divine.Posted 8 months ago # -

Laetitia in Australia
I have some of those peppermint and toffee ones in my drawer here at work. They just didn't hit the spot like I'd hoped.Thankful you stood up amongst the Earl haters (I know, dislikers!) cause I too love EG. I used to do 3 sugars (oh bliss) but since lent have gone without. It's not the same without the sweetness, so now I drink 'pink' tea (I think it's rasp, straw and cranberries). And I put milk in my EG (another sin but I don't care!) And the Earl must be Twinings!!

Day 29 - clean mouth. Only two more days to go. I hope I can make it!

Day 30 - clean mouth.
$1 penalty from Sunday's slip => wonderful violinist at the subway entrance, with his wee doggie curled up asleep inside the open violin case at his feet.

Day 31 - clean mouth. Whew.
My final total for the month is 12 curse words (and therefore $12 in penalties given to various street musicians). Before this challenge, I would have easily sworn at least that many times in one day.
I learned something unexpected about myself. Before this challenge, I had always thought that cursing was a sort of pressure-release valve. You know, a few choice words and the ugly emotions were blown off. I found the opposite to be true. On the occasions when a curse word slipped out when I was annoyed or angry, the cursing prolonged and strengthened the bad feelings. But when I restrained myself from an outburst, the feeling of irritation or anger dissipated much more quickly, sometimes immediately. (Your mileage may vary.)
Like any behavior, it has begun to become a habit not to curse. Come September 1st, I had thought I might have an urge to let loose with a barrage of nastiness. But no such urge emerged. I think I'll keep up the challenge for this month, too, but without posting daily. I'd like to beat my score of 12.

I am glad your @$*&#! month of @#$(&@$ing no swearing has made a %&(&#@ difference, Ella.
One last comment about tea. It should have tea leaves in it - as in camellia sinensis leaves and buds. Lots of the drinks we have been talking about are tisanes or infusions made with fruit, herbs and even vegetables. I am glad there is something for everyone, but they are definitely not tea imho.

Don't worry JtT - my tea is tea, just with some added extras. :-)

Mmmm maybe I was a little dogmatic! I just take my tea really seriously :)

JTT, being a tea Nazi is ok :) I'm a coffee pedant, I have to have freshly ground beans, warm milk, a double espresso and 1.5 sugars, stirred well. Then it is perfect and I'm happy, without it I'm miserable! Someone offering me a coffee and giving me instant makes my heart sink. I only have one or two cups a day, so they better be the best possible.

Don't worry JtT - I have a friend who used to insist the the water boiled just before pouring and then steeped for 5 minutes...for a lot of regular teas, 5 minutes is too long for me as I find they become bitter.

Rats. On day 6 of September, I cursed for the first time this month. Of all things, it was a remark out loud to myself about the behavior of an unsavory character in the DVD I was watching. How stupid is that. I'm very disappointed in myself. $1 penalty.

Curses! On day 8, I cursed again. $1 penalty.

Hey Ella, Maybe all that swearing repression throughout August is finding its way out. If you don't let it out sometimes, you may explode in a sea of expletives that could destroy life as we know it!
When I say things like this, my friend calls me "The Voice of Satan" !!

Fear not, JTT. I'm confident that the world will keep turning in spite of my not-yet-decluttered mouth. Meanwhile, the local street musicians are benefiting from my failings. Although yesterday I heard one subway crooner whose vibrato was so broad and quavery that I kept my dollar tightly in my pocket. One must uphold musical standards, you know! He was awful!

I cursed again on day 12, but did so intentionally. Only by the forceful use of a particular curse word was I able to drive home my complaint to management about one of the senior residents of this apartment building who, sadly, has gone completely off the deep end. Today he was committed to an institution and taken away. Very sad, but I hope he'll receive proper care now.
$3 accumulated penalties => to a young woman on the street playing guitar and singing the blues. I can only hope she gets enough donations to stay safely off the mean streets.

Ok I have been a nail biter for most of my 44 years as long as I can remember. So today I stopped by my local Nail Tech and had my nails coated with a shellac that is baked on to prevent chipping and peeling of my nails. No more biting I will start at 30 days and see how it goes with the new process and eventually I will be able let my nails stand alone and be beautiful. I always hide my hands but not anymore. THanks for the encouragement. THe process will last 3 weeks.

September's curse count held steady at only 3 bad words for a total of $3 in penalties. Not too shabby. I just didn't feel the need to curse, and that was a nice feeling. Hope it'll stick.

Ella, You are a true inspiration! Congratulations on breaking that habit! As a teacher, I cannot express things with unsavory language in front of kids, and I always hesitate to let loose in private, fearing that I will forget where I am someday and create a "situation".
We were in a pub in Scotland this summer and a young man was having a "cuss-versation". He was chatting on and on about something with the people at his table, but, and I counted, there was a swear word ever 20 seconds! I can't even imagine how he can get a point across due to the distracting nature of his language....gee, hope he isn't a teacher!Posted 7 months ago #
