The roofers turned up, took photos to show me the problem and said they'll email me a quote. Most impressed. Unlike the air con chap who I rang TWICE and still hasn't rung me back. Ringing someone else tomorrow.

Hooray for the roofers, Lottielot!
Knew exactly where to go to get my roll of screening and the duct tape (yeah!) and screened the vent area for the water heater to keep out critters. There was a grill on the outside but it had been pulled away to allow the overflow pipe access to the outside. Duh.

Fixed a misunderstanding - I kept getting emails about an overdue book. Last time I turned in books, I did a quick count, and had the right number, so didn't check them all off by name. So I assumed I must have miscounted, and have been tearing the house apart for 2 weeks. Finally called the library today in despair to ask how much to replace it - and sure enough it was on the shelf! It was their error when checking books in. Fines removed and a burden off my mind!

Took the farm truck in and had the broken mirror replaced.
Packaged up saved mane hair from a mother/daughter pair of horses who have passed on. (I manage a horse sanctuary) There is an artist in central Oregon who creates beautiful pottery and fires the hair into the piece during the process, so it will be a memorial to them, and a gift to our original benefactor who was particularly attached to them. Bit sad as it meant opening the box containing others as well, including my personal horses who have gone over the years. Will deal with that another day. *sniff*

Another keeper from the Closet Project:
Black cashmere cable pullover (men's actually, a nicer heavier gauge than the same sweater in the women's department)... shaved/de-pilled, small holes mended, handwashed, and laid flat to dry.Posted 4 months ago # -
Not exactly fixed, but I put up the big wreath I put on the front door for the holidays today. I think I left it up until late January last year!

Back in 2009, when I ordered a queen-size mattress set (a story chronicled here), I did some severe damage to the stairwell in the main hallway in order to get the mattress and box spring up to the second floor.
This evening I located a nice piece of plywood, and cut and installed a replacement for one of the trim boards I had ripped out of the stairwell.

DH bought and installed under counter LED lights in the kitchen, they are wonderful!
DH crawled under the house to do some electrical repairs.

Couple of small fixes done.
- registered online a rewards card that I've had for almost a year now (one less thing in the "to do" pile of papers!)
- cleared things off my desk enough to set up the colour printer/scanner I bought in August ago, that I lent to my job in September (without ever having used it myself) and brought home again in November. Well, not set up as in plugged in and wired up, but set up as in unpacked from the box and placed on the desk ready to be plugged in and wired up :-)
- moved the two tier table that I place my roombas on when they are recharging into a different room where visitors are less likely to see it - it has lived in my kitchen and in my living room, but I'm trying to get those rooms to be more pleasing to the eye
- pinched back a plant that is a bit too straggly - trying to force new growth lower down. I think it might need a more drastic hacking back though.Posted 4 months ago # -
Bought invitation cards for sister's birthday party. Still have to finish designing them though; almost there but the dot on the eye is still missing.
Booked an appointment for physiotherapy and was fortunate enough to get a time already tomorrow. Wonderful.
Tried tightening screws that hold the radiator on the wall, since they are loose and make the radiator vibrate when a container-sized ship goes by. Didn't succeed, most likely since some dork has painted the screws into place before I moved in. DH will have to look at it, but he didn't react yesterday in a way that would have solved the problem, so I might wait for another year or so before he has taken care of it. Bah.

Ninakk: paint stripper?
Air con bloke finally rang me back and arranged to come on Friday afternoon. Not sure how it took him 2 days to schedule something simple, but as long as it gets done...
Roofers emailed me an ok-looking quote but dh says not until February due to his January spending freeze. Sigh. Hopefully it won't rain too much in the meantime! I will put it in my diary to ring them just before february.Posted 4 months ago # -
sent a package with no longer needed baby clothes to a friend who has a neighbour with twins, so she his grateful for all additional things she can get. this was pending since late October

Called the HVAC people who were supposed to call me yesterday -- they are coming Friday to fix the furnace ducts that they should have upgraded the first visit. There will be one more service call after that for the re-inspection. Will be glad to get that done.
Spoke to a mutual friend and discovered one of the potential handymen is now working long term on an out-of-state project, so scratch him off the list. Sent an e-mail to remind the sister of the handy couple to pass my info onto them.

From the Closet Project:
Mended holes in two fingertips of my black cashmere gloves, handwashed, and laid flat to dry. I had let one hole go for way too long and it was almost irreparable.
Must remember: A stitch in time saves nine.Posted 4 months ago # -
Car to garage for it's service. I've taken the day of work as it makes it all easier to organise so have a list of tasks it would be good to tackle. Could have done them over Christmas but I was doing intense sloth, today is a get to work at home day.
Wired willow fencing back together again. The recent, and still blowing, very stong winds had made the thin wire holding it together break. It's a bit of an emergency fix and better wiring can be done when there are two of us at the weekend. I'm hoping it will hold things together until then as the winds are due to drop this afternoon.Posted 4 months ago # -
I'm researching how many DVD/CD's can be kept in a ring binder. I just had this crazy idea that the CD pocket inserts could be used for DVD's as well. That would reduce the space for my DVD's and CD's I own without feeling like I need to get rid of them - just their packaging!

Not really a fix, but something that really needed doing-Received the new hard drive,
made a bootable back up and moved iPhoto to the second partition on the drive.Posted 4 months ago # -
Oiled the lock on my shed at the allotment, I had to leave it unlocked the last few weeks till I fixed that as it was too stiff to turn.
Wheelbarrowed loads of woodchip down to the allotment to keep the weeds down on my path and round the fruit. Need to do a few more hours of that before it's finished. All the netting had come off my brassicas but no point fixing it till the wind stops blowing a howling gale as it'll just blow off again. I staked a few plants which were leaning too far in the wind.Posted 4 months ago #
