@Conny... not sure if this is an option but leaving it out in the sun might lighten it somewhat...

I had such a spectacular FATAD that I blogged about it:
Reciprocating saws are full of win.
Now I can finally fix -- And paint! -- that blasted wall.

From the Closet Project:
Touched up the black dye and polished 5 pairs of shoes. Brushed up the suede on
2 more pairs. Dressed the scuffed edges of all. That makes 7 FATADs, and now I'm caught up to this point in the month. However, I do not recommend polishing your shoes when you're coming down with a cold and have to stop to snuffle and blow every other minute. Now for another FATAD... cleaning the black polish off my nose. :*/Edit: I just tallied up my January FATADs. I've repaired/rejuvenated 31 clothing items altogether, so I've reached my goal for the month. Hooray!

Astreja, you are fearless! Those pictures scared me!
Posted 3 months ago # -
@ Ella: If you think the pictures were scary... :-D
I was absolutely astounded that everything went as smoothly as it did yesterday. Normally I grossly underestimate how long it'll take to do something. Even with the surprises, such as the cold air return vent that covered a nearly solid wall, I was still done in time to go shopping. (Normally, Sunday projects like this go to at least 10 p.m. and occasionally into the wee hours, because I got over-ambitious and started more than I could reasonably finish in a day.)

Regarding the grey/gray wooly blanket problem: I found a household tips column in German that suggested using soda crystals and "gallseife" (gall soap?)stain remover in with the regular liquid soap meant for woolens.
I did the above, and it seems to be a lighter shade of grey now. I shall put it in the sun too and suggest same to daughter when i hand it back to her.Posted 3 months ago # -
If there was a prize for the laziest fix, I think I'd win it today. Today was a sunny day with temperatures a few degrees below zero, and so I took our bed covers out and hung them over the railing of our roof terrace (the railing only got finished last month so I wasn't able to do this before). I left them out in the sun and the freezing cold all day so the dust mites will have had a nasty surprise (if Wikipedia is to be believed, a fatal one). Only was able to do two of the pillows (can't hang them over the railings) but the weather is supposed to stay like this for a bit, so will keep at it. Bedstuff smelt all lovely and fresh when I brought it inside.
@Connie: If all else fails, maybe she can dye the blanket? There are organic dyes out there which should be ok for items coming into contact with skin.

astreja, you are such a cool lady. i'm always curiously following your projects as they seem positively impossible to do in my eyes!
littlecloud, yes the buggars die in minus degrees! i will take out both our mattresses and all down products one day soon.

Car is in the shop having the passenger side mirror replaced -- $289. Will be ready tomorrow afternoon and they will send a car to pick me up to retrieve it. Yeah!

Migraine day means not much energy for smart stuff, so cleaned up in the two office cupboards above the desk and rearranged some of the contents as well as got rid of the household manual. Hubby doesn't use it so I might as well keep insurance, kitty and other info in my own file folder. Waste of energy to try to upkeep something another person doesn't appreciate at all. Oh well, at least it's one less item on my February to do list.
My external harddrive to keep outside of the home just finished becoming a Time Machine, so I'll drop it off at parents when suitable. Phew, relief is great; why did I procrastinate for so long?

Whoa, so many handy people putting me to shame!
Our landlord finally closed up and put a finishing strip over the gap between 2 kinds of flooring in my apartment... only 4 months after we put in the request. In his defence, his usual contractor had injured his back, but it makes me wonder whether he's the only contractor available, in a city of over a million people?
On my side: finished my floor cushion project, reorganized two closets, and replaced the unused white boards in my office with magnetic boards, which are being used.

That sounds pretty good to me, Anita!
Picked up car from shop -- whew. Always stressful to arrange repairs at a time when I don't have to re-jigger my entire schedule, but it worked out perfectly.

Put up some new lampshades in the hall and living room although none of the family have noticed yet, (eyes roll upwards!)
@ susanintexas, phew, $289 for a passenger side mirror! That's pretty steep! Was it a special type?

Clutterbug: had the mirror installed by the dealer -- probably could have done it much cheaper ourselves, but DH was reluctant and I am clumsy with things like that -- I have some fairly dangerous lanes of traffic to negotiate, so felt it important to to let the problem linger for months. Which it could have done :)

@ susanintexas, yes, you can't put a price on safety and at least it's a job done that you don't have to worry about.
Made progress on my mending pile, sewed up dd's school jumper and pencil case and repaired about 10 other items from my mending pile (which has been languishing in a carrier bag by the dining table, some of the items from over a year now, whoops!) This is why I love the FATAD thread, as it inspires you to get some of those niggly jobs done!
Takes me up to Day 28 of Jan so just a few more things fixed and I've accomplished a whole month's worth.Posted 3 months ago # -
In the process of cleaning out the Art Closet, I found the fabric for a robe I had promised someone. Took the cloth downstairs, got the pattern out of the junk drawer in the kitchen, and got started. The 3 main sections of the body are now cut and ready to sew together.

Just to finish on my January FATAD,
Cleaned out Hoover filter.
Made an appt with landlord to get 2nd coat of paint on walls, should have been done week before Christmas.
Made a special trip to take back a reserved book to library before it accrued more fines (as it can't be renewed if reserved).
Noted birthdays and school dates onto calendar which I usually do at the beginning of the year, good job I did as I've found out that the kids break up from school this Thursday for Half Term. Already! Just crazy, they've not been long back from the Christmas holidays!
So that's all of Jan FATAD completed, although a bit late!
