during today's big clean-and-tidy, we finally fixed something that has been hanging about for a few weeks.....a piece of digital tv equipment got disconnected, moved behind the tv, all the wires and cables were fed through the back and re-connected invisibly.
much more streamlined looking!
and while i was there, i wiped down all the cables, vacuumed in that corner, dusted everything.

A bulletin board in my office has been hanging sideways by one hook for over a year; I finally got it hung properly and cleaned some of the stuff off it, keeping only relevant things on it.

Went to my sister's and we oganized the boxes of stuff from grandma that will be taken to the seller on Tuesday and I still have to print a list to bring with us, but at least the things are prepared. We also talked about her upcoming party; some deadlines have been agreed upon.
The lock plate of the front door was sitting loosely so I screwed it back in place. Goodness, psychologically it's much less of a hassle to just do it immediately after it has been noticed rather than to put it on a to do list!

A keeper from the Closet Project:
Light blue thick cashmere turtleneck... de-pilled (with a battery-operated shaver thingey - great little invention), small hole mended, handwashed, and laid flat to dry.Posted 4 months ago # -
ninakk, it is the power of the two minute rule!

Did touch up painting in DS's room, in prep for rearranging his one bulletin board into two, on a different wall. I was sure this was a big task, so I convinced myself that I'd just do the prep today (remove things from wall, put out drop cloth, take supplies to his room) but I got it painted! I'll hang up the bulletin boards tonight or tomorrow. woo hoo! (plus DS will be surprised - he's away for 2 nights, and will be really glad to see this project done when he gets back)

Tightened the screws on the set of fireplace tools my grandparents gave me. They are not my taste and were wobbly. Now they are sturdy, still not my style, but will do for now! Burning up the last of the fire, then I will clean out the fireplace later tonight after it cools.
Wiped down seals of the refrigerator/freezer.
Pulled covers off dog beds to wash with truck seat cover. In the laundry now.
Sprayed my rainjacket with waterproofing, hope it works! Did a pair of shoes while I was at it.

@ninakk, must have felt good to get something done right away! Suspect there's a shift in mindset. I'm prone to what T mentioned, "I was sure this was a big task." But in reality, many things on our to do list are pretty quick!
@Jennifer, seems like you are still on a roll :-)

Here's a ridiculous one, only because it was one of those tasks I was sure was going to take AGES, and it took all of 20 minutes. I took the cushions off my kitchen chairs because they were covered in cat hair and they are tufted and textured and not machine washable. Stuck them in the closet and there they have languished for months. Tonight I took the lint brush and sticky tape to them, and they are back on the chairs. This time covered with the same color of linen napkin that I can just toss in the wash should they get furry.

Installed the new coat hook bars (all 3 of 'em), on the wall by the front stairs. Used the 6 new coat hooks that I bought last week or so, and a bunch of smaller hooks suitable for hats, purses and such, for (3 x 7) = 21 new places to hang things. I made sure one bar was high up to accommodate things like my daughter's ankle-length wool coat, which hung too low on the old hooks.

put a hook in my closet for belts. why didn't i do this two years ago when we moved in? took less than five minutes and officially gave them a "home".

FATAD and BATAD...
Got my two Waterman pens (the ink cartridge kind) out of storage after 2+ years. They were both clogged with dried ink. I soaked them in warm water for most of today. The expensive pen recovered nicely and is now all set to inscribe the first page of my Three Good Things journal tonight at bedtime. But the cheaper pen, my dear old everyday pen, didn't make it. :( I forced it too much and broke the nib and its casing. Hence my new category, BATAD: break a thing a day.But you know, if this had happened before I joined this forum I've have been in tears. And I'd have shoved the broken bits to the back of some drawer. Instead,
I figured out a way to repurpose the outer case: tah-da! it makes a dandy little toothpick holder and dispenser for my purse. The broken bits went into the trash.Posted 4 months ago # -
Ah, Ella, well done. No avoidance anymore, you're a woman of action!
Just got back from the doctor's; new prescription for migraine meds (hooray, don't have to stress about running out anymore, since the waiting times are awful here if one doesn't go private), discussion re:kitty bites, physiotherapy referral for ten sessions and a phone number to the psychiatric nurse (I think I'll have to dig a bit deeper as to why I'm stress eating, might talk more about this in the declutter fat thread) who I'll call when she has her phone hour later today. I'm especially happy about the physiotherapy because this means I will get back 30% of the cost from social security; it's a lot of money.
Dropped a jewellery order off at the post office. The company stuff is slow but I can see an increase in sales (it's still below 50 though but I'll get past that this year). And to have an order drop in on the first day of the year certainly gave me a boost to continue. It's a perfect hobby really, almost anything that comes in also leaves the house eventually!

Ella,
I like the BATAD concept, it happened to me yesterday with the loo seat, lifted the lid and the hinge broke. I have to go and find a new one as it's not very mendable moulded plastic. Then it will turn into a FATAD but I'll get DH to actually do the installation!Posted 4 months ago # -
The washing machine has been running all afternoon and luckily now is the last load. DH had produced quite a lot on his vacation.
Am almost done downloading December statements from the different bank accounts and have made the first transfers in iCompta.
Right now I'm creating new pieces for the jewellery shop and having a blast.

Ella, I also love my jumper shaver, or de-bobbler. I have lent it out to a few friends already, and bought one for my best friend this Christmas...

Tidied up the front garden, patio and back garden by doing a load of pruning. Plenty more to do, but it's a start.

A quick check made me realise that I pay far too much for my electricity. Spent 30 minutes fighting with the website (stupid dysfunctional user interface), and finally managed to change my electricity subscription. This will mean savings of around 35%, which is good money even if I don't have a huge electricity bill. Yay me!
