So as a few of you know, I'm attempting to cut down to 500 items. This includes books, kitchen equipment... basically everything. (There's a few exceptions, like a bag of pens is two items, not 40.) I don't know that I'll make it that low, but I've definitely seen a change in my attitude towards stuff given the drastic decisions I've had to make.
Since I currently have about three hundred spots open, and I still need to add in clothing and the rest of my books, I look at everything with a much more discerning eye. It's not just a matter of whether I need/could use the item, but whether or not that particular item is really necessary. If I have 7 blankets, but could buy a really decent comforter that does the job just as well, which is better to have? For me, having less is more effective and less stressful. Over time I'm starting to see which things I really enjoy and which things I really don't need anymore.
I was wondering if anyone else is cutting back drastically, or has done so? Even if it isn't to a certain number of items. I've noticed that because I'm cutting out so much, I'm having a major emotional reaction to having STUFF that I might not have felt had I not been so drastic. Thoughts?
