Sorry if this has been discussed, but I couldn't find it.
I've got a big box stuffed with a variety of fabrics of various lengths -- perfectly good fabric I bought to sew things and never got around to.
I suspect Goodwill will just throw it out, but I don't know where to donate it where it can do some good.
Any ideas?
My local Salvation Army has a designated rack for donated fabric. I've never seen any in Goodwill, but you could always call and ask your local one.
Plus, nursing homes, senior centers, the Linus project, your local quilter's guild, any school that still has a home ec class...the list of those hoping for fabric donations has no end!
Our local high school still teaches home ec. They welcome donations of fabric.

Goodwill sells donated fabrics. Women who quilt for charity usually get there early in the morning to snatch up all the cotton fabric.
If you have cottons, you could also check if there are local "Project Linus" (makes quilts for hospitalized children) or "Quilts of Valor" makes quilts for service men and women) groups in your area. Some churches have groups of women who make quilts for charity.
You can donate fabric to organisations who help new refugees settle in the community. They sometimes form sewing groups to allow people to form social contacts.
If Craigslist is active near you, you could post your fabric as a freebie there. I know a quilter who gets all her fabric for free on Craigslist.
Most quilters want 100% cotton fabric, so be sure to mention the type of fabric you have if you decide to list it. :)
Thanks everyone! I ended up donating all of it to the Center for Creative Living here in town, which is a senior citizen day care center. My grandmother went there for years; they do great work and were very appreciative.
I bet many of you know what a wonderful feeling I had when I let go of all that stuff!

I have two small sweatshirts ready to receive fabric scraps and it won't take long to fill them, and off to the dogs they go. LOL (Really, to the animal shelter to use as dog beds)
My friend in Chicago has just opened up her own charity for rescuing furbabbys, so all my fabric is going to her, what a great cause. She's following a dream of her life, her heart is all gold, she's inspired me so many times to move forward. If anyone is in the Ill. area and have old sheetes, blankets, etc, I am helping her recruit on her need list, so please just ask me, I will give you the name of the org. etc.
