PMP: that is a great story, you're doing really well!
Sigh, dh uncluttered my present to him by going out and buying a picture for his office. I looked at literally thousands of paintings online for him, emailed him links to maybe 50, and he went and chose something himself after all that. I give up!
This weekend I will drag out the presents I have bought so far and see where we're at, order anything online if necessary.

This year was the first year I tried to start a "let's not exchange gifts this Christmas" conversation with my husband. We're newlyweds, but we've been living together for 8 years, and while I love my gifts from him and love buying him things, it's gotten to a point of diminishing returns. He wanted to keep exchanging Christmas gifts (totally reasonable), but I'm glad I brought it up, because it led to us deciding to stop exchanging birthday gifts.
In terms of decorations, I sometimes make those oranges with cloves stuck in them in pattens - they're really festive and they smell nice and then you just throw them out at the end of the season.

Our presents to each other are usually either (a) practical (getting around the "no new clothes" by having DH replace my full-of-small-holes nightgown :) ); or (2) experience/consumable. THis year we have planned a weekend away at a cross-country ski B&B about 60 miles from us. We'll probably go in late Feb/early March - having spent most of Jan in Hawaii. :)
We too have no kids, but several nieces/nephews and their kids/grandkids. We send "things" only to children under 18 or so still living at home (usually books or gift cards). Adults get Alaska calendars and the siblings get donations made in their names to charities matching their interests. (Some will be Kiva this year - thanks Bandicoot).
