Any goals or things you want to finish by the end of the year?
It's custom in many places to clean your house at the end of the year to meet the new year with a fresh slate. Families clean house in a frenzy to welcome the in the new year. I'd like to follow it.
Toward that end, here's the goal:
Have a sparkling immaculate house by January 1, 2012
Or . . . progress to that goal
1. Clear one kitchen counter
I actually took off three days next week (we get Thanksgiving and the day after off as well) just to get a few lingering projects completed. I really needed a break from work too, which has been especially stressful lately, so it's perfectly timed on all sides.
My goal is to have this house all sorted and reduced as much as possible by March 1st... which is when we plan to put it up for sale and move. If I do it by Jan 1st, so much the better!
I would love to have:
- Cleaned windows
- Sorted through all grandma stuff
- Organized all sewing gear
- Started tackling one of the memory boxes from the basement
by the end of 2011. I will keep track in the Fix atad thread.
my goal is to tidy up a few dodgy corners and drawers in time for jan 4th, which is when our house sitters move in for 3 weeks.
and clear off the kitchen table, which has sprouted an amazing quantity of clutter.
and maybe it is time to sugarsoap the walls in the bedroom and office.
getting these things done before christmas would be even better and is certainly doable.
I love the idea of having a sparkling home to welcome in the New Year. Count me in for that one.
I also have been scanning and organizing old sentimental papers and I hope to have that project complete by the end of the year.
Finally, I lost 20 pounds (out of a total of 50 I want to lose - I gained a lot of weight several years back while coping with a traumatic experience) so far in 2011. I was hoping to lose all 50...but it's too late for that, now. Still, the lower the number on December 31st, the better I'll feel.
Oh, like bandicoot, my date is Jan 4, which is when we too turn our house over to a house sitter and head for Hawaii for 3 weeks. The main living floor is pretty well decluttered, though I could go through the pantry again. It's the half-basement where my office and sewing room are that's the problem (and the part that no one but us ever sees). You may remember that I tried to blitz them last year before we left for Hawaii. The office has regressed a little but would be good with a half day's work. The sewing room has been somewhat decluttered, but a lot remains to be done. And I have several Christmas items in there to be finished. Sigh. I'll commit to the office and the pantry. :)
The jewellery thread has me inspired to add organize my stash to the list.
I think I mentioned on the fix-a-thing-a-day thread that I hope to have the house as ship-shape as I can make it by mid-January when I have a friend coming to visit. Not that she needs impressing, but just because. The one thing DH has to cooperate with is fixing the faucet in the master bathroom -- the water has been turned off in there for a year and he won't let me call a plumber. I'll just fix/clean/eliminate a thing a day and see how it goes :)
I would like to finish sorting through boxes in my home office and finally getting it organized. We moved here almost five months ago and I still have a long way to go. The closet in the office also holds all my craft supplies, so I have a LOT of stuff to go through!
I have two main goals, one of which is to continue keeping our house in order, not letting clutter get out of hand. The other is to continue working with my organizer at going through the boxes of belongings in the garage, being relentless about sorting 'keeps' from 'donates.'
Don't know if this'll be done by the new year, but I'm keeping at it till it *is* done. :)
I have a couple of projects that I'd like to finish before December 22, which is when I throw my annual Yule party. I'd like to have the Once and Future Bathroom finished so the guests can use it rather than the upstairs one, and I'd also like to have an electric fireplace installed and operating in the corner of the living room.
Day 2: Didn't clear the counter but cleared a pantry shelf.
Major victory today. Dragged DH to the home improvement store to look at new solar shades for the living room to replace the truly DREADFUL cheap vertical blinds we bought when we moved here, almost 20 years ago. The were only intended to be a temporary measure -- but you know how it goes. We looked at dozens of styles and colors, selected what we both liked and we ordered something similar on sale online. Also ordered some curtains. It should look quite nice. It should all arrive in the next few weeks and he has agreed to help me take down the old stuff and install the new stuff. YEAH!
I also like the goal of having a clean house for the new year! I just got decluttered again after a three-month downward spiral, so there is hope that I now can get the cleaning done as well.
I have a small stack of paper filing that needs to go into the filing cabinet. It got away from me when my seasonal allergies settled in my eyes for six weeks this late summer/early fall. At least they are sorted by the order they go into the cabinet so it should not be too difficult.
I am hunting for some custom drawer inserts to reorganize my kitchen drawers. Does anyone have any ideas or sites that can help?
Jim: have you looked at the drawer organizers at Ikea?
There's no way our house will be 100% uncluttered by Jan 1 - we have much too much to do. But, I want the living room, kitchen/dining room and den (aka computer room) in great shape by Dec. 19 when we leave for Maine. I better get a move on! :)
My by-the-new-year goal is to get the first three quarters' bookkeeping entries done so that I can start making a 2013 budget.
I am making good progress on this, my first day of vacation time...
1) laundry caught up (and folded)
2) repairman scheduled to fix dishwasher
3) tedious paperwork sorted and filed and mailed to get my 3 year recertification
4) xmas cards ordered
5) new pillow purchased in hopes of solving neck ache, as well as some eye cream (saw myself in a mirror in full daylight on Sunday, eek!)
6) new 2oz. travel bottles purchased (one little spray bottle, one for contact lens solution)
7) gift card used up on box of chocolates (yum)
8) new cell phone researched
9) closet cleared out (finishing a job I started last month) and list made of items I will need to purchase once the last 10 lbs is lost. it is thankfully less than I thought I would need. box of clothes and accessories filled up for charity drop-off tomorrow
10) impluse handbag buy returned (then bought three more- see "Confessions" post- oops)
