Bought a Rubbermaid fasttrack rail, 3 bike rack accessories for it, and a masonry drill bit to install it. I'm hoping this solves my what-to-do-with-the-bikes problem in the garage. Justified if it accomplishes its purpose.

Went to Montreal for the weekend, and came back with one extra cardigan. I wasn't planning on going shopping, but for some reason they started turning on the A/C on trains already, so I was freezing on the way there. Decided not to freeze on the way back, so I took to the shops, and found a beautiful black cardigan that will get a lot of wear, especially since I didn't have anything like it until now.

Re the Kindle: I just find it quite tricky finding suitable books on the Kindle, though I agree that the book sample functionality is great :) I'm a bit picky about books, but it's difficult navigating the Kindle looking for inspiration, and if I go on the Amazon website 9 times out of 10 the book I want isn't on the Kindle. And if I look at book review sites and blogs, half the time the books on there are also not available on the Kindle. I think the publishers need to get their act together! I do love my Kindle though :)
Anyway, bought some more books for ds1's birthday. We're going away so he will need some reading material for the holiday, he re-reads books a lot too so it's money well spent for him.
I bought some Boden trousers from ebay, all my trousers keep falling apart and I have run out of summery ones, so hopefully that's justified. I've bought some music from iTunes recently. Um, that's about it. Never visiting the shops pays off for me :)Posted 1 year ago # -
There is never any cash left in my purse to buy anything lately once my son has got to it. Here is a little advice for parents of dubbing artists doing a fine arts degree ~ discourage them from doing any classes on film photography. I have paid for so many rolls of film and photo paper lately that there isn't any money left for me. Actually that is rather a large exaggeration and I encourage him to explore all avenues that his degree offers but wow!!!!
So long as I can afford a skinny cappuccino with a friend once or twice a week I am happy and there is no clutter involved and that so Yay!

Been doing well with shopping on this trip. Up tiltoday all i've gotten is consumables - meals, etc - or cards. I have a new great-nephew and a niece and BIL with birthdays (party on Sunday). Today we went to a wonderful quilt store and i got some fabric for a new project. Not exactly justified, but made me happy. :-)

Bought a new outdoor umbrella (the old one fell over and broke late last year.) Think I'll have my taco salad out on the deck tonight!
Also bought (on sale) a book about socially responsible investing for DH. He was thrilled.

Took my two big winter coats in to be cleaned and mended (a zipper was falling apart and a couple of seams were starting to unravel). They are now good as new and ready to be packed away until November.
Due to tax-induced necessity (turns out my HR department has a few screws loose and hasn't been deducting enough taxes off my pay, so I got hit with a $2300 tax bill. I hadn't prepared for it, having assumed the pay folks know what they're doing... guess that taught me to be too trusting?), I'm declaring the rest of April, and possibly all of May to be very frugal months. The plan is no non-consumable purchases unless they're true emergencies, or can be put on gift/point cards. So here's hoping you won't see much of me on this topic until June...

The jury is out: I just purchased a tiny non-stick frying pan to fry one egg to make your own egg McMuffin. It's so adorable and I love the concept and purpose! It keeps the egg in just the right shape and I'll probably cook 2 eggs at time in it as well. Just the right size to shape perfect pancakes too.

Anita: Bummer!
NTCH: I sometimes make a Susan McMuffin for breakfast, with one egg, a morningstar Farms vegetarian sausage patty and a half slice of low-fat swiss on a high fiber english muffin or bagel thin. It uses up about 1/3 of my weight watcher points for the day but is super filling. The fry pan sounds useful.Posted 1 year ago # -
sounds muchos yummios! The pan keeps the egg in the right shape. I think they should do a rectangle pan to fit regular sandwich bread too. You know how the round shaped egg fits funny on the square bread. I'll look and see if I can find one.
For the Susan McMuffin I'll use home made flaxbread per the HCG maintenance recipe book (going to try my best to limit wheat - per the eat right for your blood type theory for my blood type - wheat is great for another blood type; but not mine)

Went to Barnes & Noble today - I really need to stay out of bookstores.
I bought Falcon's Guide "Easy Hikes Near Anchorage" and "Camping Alaska". I'll tell you by labor day whether or not these are justified.I bought "Hiking Washington" and "Hiking Oregon" a few years ago when I lived in Washington, but I only hiked 2-3 of the trails.
Sadly, I'm thinking this purchase is going to end up in the Not Justified category - but I probably won't get rid of them until I move out of Alaska (I still can't bring myself to get rid of the Oregon and Washington books because I know I'll be back there someday.)

How about joining a local hiking group? They'll have info on trails and folks to hike with besides.

Cool! I just realized my last silly purchase was months ago, when I bought a weak mini hair-dryer for my gym bag. I used to buy foolish things all the time, and Unclutterer has certainly helped with that. Seeing how well you're all doing has been very inspirational! My last several purchases were food, toiletries, gifts for others, or necessary replacement clothing (I've lost 20 lbs so far in the last year). My next purchase will probably be a paper shredder, so I can tornado through old bank statements and hopefully chuck my dilapidated file cabinet.

Hi anitamojito,
good for you I am glad to see you know how to recognise silly purchases and are proud of yourself for not making them. Reading some of the comments here I'd say that message isn't getting through to everyone. We are all at different levels of awareness about this though i suppose and that is why folks come here for encouragement to keep on the path to a decluttered life. Good luck and well done!Posted 1 year ago # -
Thank you, 365lessthings! I really appreciate the encouragement. :)
