I don't mean literal boomerangs, though they might fit the category...
Do you have any items that keep coming back to you after you've gotten rid of them? Do they come back with an extra layer of emotion... guilt or sadness, for instance?
I have a couple of gifts that I gave to my best friend and to my mother. After they both died, I brought one gift back into my home and threw the other away. The throwaway was a self-portrait I'd given to my mother during my college art student days, but years later she tried to give it back to me. I refused it at the time, being terribly hurt and offended. Little did I know that she'd felt her death approaching and was trying to declutter the portrait to its rightful owner.
The gift to/from my friend is a little iron trivet made up of the letters H-O-T welded together at silly angles. I bought it at one friend's garage sale for 10 cents and gave it to my best friend because he collected kitchen kitsch. He even made a home movie of himself cooking, and at one point pressed the HOT trivet to his butt, winked at the camera, and went: "Sssssss...!!" Now seeing it always makes me smile.
But some boomerang clutter can be infuriating! I think those items come back just to mock me for my stupidity in acquiring them in the first place.
