Oh Lucy! That sounds wonderful! I used to see a class offered in Santa Cruz that was about how to sketch really fast, like when the cab is at a stop light on a street in Paris. I took a small watercolor set to Scotland and Ireland last summer and never took it out. We spent too much time in cars and not enough time relaxing on park benches.

When I was a student at UC Santa Cruz, I modeled for an art class where the instructor had me change poses every 5 minutes for the first hour, so students would do 12 speed sketches, and then I relaxed into 2 longer poses for the remaining
2 hours. The quick poses were a good warm-up both for the students and for the model, to loosen up and get the creativity flowing. As for cluttery movies, tonight I'm re-watching the remake of "Grey Gardens" with Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange. Or rather, not a remake - it's quite a different film from the original 1970s documentary, which itself was harrowing and fascinating to watch. "GG" doesn't encourage cluttering, but it certainly shows how clutter grows from neglect, old age, and diminishing mental faculties.

Another Deb:
I filled an entire notebook with sketches during my three week trip. Lots of time spent in cafes, parks, and museums. I took a small watercolor set but never used it either. I hardly took any photos and for once in my life didn't keep a written journal of every moment. And only one carry-on bag for the entire trip! The drawing is a brand-new addition to my uncluttered life...having time to do what I enjoy. Learning to paint with watercolors has been on my ToDo list for a very long time. I keep all my supplies in one large tote bag. Containment.

I started to watch Grey Gardens a week or so ago and didn't make it past the first 10 minutes. I couldn't bear to see how they lived. Made my stomach hurt.Posted 6 months ago #
