Hi Geo!
I have rooms very much like this and it does get worse before it gets better!
So, I am one who gets her plastic organizers AT the thrift stores...I also tend to arrange the furniture to hide stuff. My bed sits at an angle in a corner so I can store seasonal items behind the headboard. Parson's chairs have slipcovers and a box can live under them, a couch sits a bit further from a wall so I can store a folding table behind it.
I also scrapbook and rubber stamp. Since I buy rubber stamps at the thrift stores, I have accumulated quite a storehouse. I also look for old clear VHS tape cases at the thrift stores. Each case can hold between 4 and 10 rubber stamps, and will line up on a shelf, or in my case, in a drawer of a dresser. The binder edge has a label for what stamps are inside. I bought a pretty blank journal at a thrift store and have made a stamp impression of each stamp I own as a reference. The pages are themed, so as I work on a project I can see what stamps can go with it.
Also at the thrift stores and dollar stores, I found a few of those flat plastic boxes with about 12 divided 2 inch spaces inside. These have helped me tremendously for the tiny bits of sequins, buttons, brads, grommets and multitude of embellishments that used to be scattered in numerous tiny plastic bags. Now I can see all of them at once. Boy, it felt good to get rid of those little bags!
I have put all of my ribbons into a mesh cosmetics bag I found at a Goodwill. You can see through it a bit but I punched holes all over it to feed the ribbons out of. They stay clean and can pull through easily. It hangs on a doorknob.
I used to sort patterned paper very carefully but have just been storing it standing up in a plastic bin by color and only wedding and Christmas paper are separated by theme. Solid cardstock is store in back of the patterned paper.
I store scraps in a 12x 12 flat plastic container sold at craft stores.
In another 12 x 12 plastic box I store the stickers, letters and other flat things.
I splurged $ 1.50 each on several identical sturdy shoeboxes at the craft store which contain tools, stamp pads or photos. They are black so I don't have to look at the clutter. They stack and look great.
When I host a crop I just take the lids off and line up all of the boxes on the kitchen counter, drag the bin of paper onto another surface, and open the drawer with the rubber stamps in it.
