I thought this was really cool!

You ship them your batteries and they recycle them. I've been so careful to recycle batteries, but it seems like less and less places take them. I've gotten so frustrated that I've thrown out a few, but then I feel very guilty. Everyone else seems to just throw them out with no guilt, though.

Do the retailers take them where you live? I got in the habit of taking ours to the toxic waste dropoff, I always forget I can just take them to Target or Best Buy.
If they don't, that looks like an awesome service.

@misskittin It was my understanding that battery shops (such as Batteries Plus) were required to accept any batteries brought in for recycling, but I could have read that in the Journal of "I read it on the Interwebs, so it must be true!" *grin*

Our school collects regular batteries for a fundraiser. The school with the most weight wins money for extra stuff. The rechargeable batteries go to Target, Home Depot, or where ever I happen to be headed.

Lots of places take the rechargeable ones, but almost nowhere takes the alkaline ones. Longs used to take them but CVS ate Longs. I read somewhere that whole foods take them but I have not seen it at my local whole foods.
