I have several boxes of baby clothes, and I'm wondering if I should hold on to them. On one hand, I am planning to have a second child...on the other, what are the chances I'll have another girl in the summer?

If storage isn't an issue, hold on to them.
I know of several families where same-sex siblings were born in the same month, let-alone the same season... (different years). I have two May-born brothers. Odds are not that slim.

I think its worth saving them if you have space- if you have a boy or a girl in a different season you can always get rid of the clothes to get what you need at that point. Now that I have two, their clothes are out the door the second they outgrow them.

I agree, if you have the space, save them. My sister kept hers and it helped a lot. All three of her kids were born in September and October, and while the middle one is a girl, there was some stuff that was same sex and she still was able to use. Also, now that she's done having kids she was just about to start purging when we found out that my youngest sister is having a baby, while she's due to have a boy in April, we're still going through some of it because you can always use sleepers and onies (etc.) even in the opposite seasons, and a lot of it is still in really good condition. The girl's clothes we recently donated to our church's thrift shop and found out that another family that really needed them were able to use them.

@wintersmom, if you're still in the baby game, I would absolutely keep them. I had exact opposite timed girls - first is July, second was Feb. BUT, first was tall and thin, second is more sturdy and has a booty. :-) Consequently, the clothes that my first outgrew, perfectly fit the second right afterwords (unless the cut was wrong for her). I bought VERY limited clothes - actually, occasionally I take my younger daughter out to get a few things because otherwise she'd NEVER get new clothes!
Now, not sure how they are stored, but that is pretty key to you actually using them again. I was pregnant soon after the first (oops) so I was nesting at the right time, but my suggestion is if they are not already, go through and put them in containers / boxes with sizing on the outside. And, don't go by tags, go by how they look in size. Also, include ALL pieces of that size in there - tops, bottoms, onesies, dresses, PJs, bathing suits, socks, even shoes if you've saved them! You don't want to go hunting - and, you won't find the saved clothes until it's too late!
I used big swaths of time - when they were little it was 0 - 6 mos, 6 - mos to 12 (because that's a big size change and also a change from the really baby stuff to real clothes). Then I go by year, 1, 2, then I went to two years, 3 - 4, 5 - 6, and I'm up to 7 - 8. Reality is that clothes that size can really fit either of those ages.
Stack with bins of older-age clothes on the bottom and youngest on top! That's not how they come into storage so it's a challenge for hubby when the bin is ready, but it's key to keep the YOUNGER clothes on top, not the older so you go right through them! And, lastly, I don't recommend under the bed because, again, you never find them until it's too late.
Now, if your second is a boy... all bets are off unless you have more! Then, you have to start all over with the boy stuff!
I'm actually now at the point where we're done (2 is good enough for me!) and my sister is having a baby in March. My philosophy is going to be that she can go through and take what she wants if a girl, then everything else goes immediately out to consignment, eBay or Goodwill!
Good luck -

Thanks for the feedback! I just freecycled a whole bunch of stuff so I actually have room to store the baby clothes now.
@akcorcoran - Good tip on storage!
