alice f. : please, no pressure!
some of us run in bursts (that would be me).
i am on a frenzied roll right now because i am about to go away for a couple of weeks and i've got house sitters arriving.
so, there will be two weeks with zero ATAD from here and you just know i'll be buying tea and stuff in the big city, lol.
Alice: No pressure from this corner. I just go along in pokey little baby steps.
Welcome to the ATAD group!
Trashed or donated today:
- Christmas cards received this year (kept the envelopes to make sure my address list is up to date)
- Blue towel, originally purchased for camping (we don't camp enough to justify separate towels
- Too big pair of undies (somehow, I have them in sizes small, medium, AND large!)
- Christmas Colorforms dollhouse (my daughter has enough Christmas things to entertain her)
- Duplicate computer wire
- Pin
two skinny belts. i think it's a nice style for other girls, but try as i might it does not work for me. i have a lot of fashion fantasy self ideas that need addressed in the coming weeks, but this was a good start.
Yesterdays OUT:
- Old pillow the cats had been using as some sort of chew toy.
- Ratty looking bikini top.
- A small pile of papers all put in the recycling bin.
- More small things like gloves etc to join the already full large plastic bag for donations.
- Spent some time ripping cd's and they will all go to goodwill. Ripped so many I emptied my smallest cd-case (which my brother wants for his cd's) so I now only have ONE case left! And that's not even full!!! The cd's were one of those things I thought I'd never finish... So motivating to know there's only one case left now.
- Threw out some broken pieces of jewellery that weren't fixable.
- Jammed a hideous beach towel with dolphins on it in the donation bag. I plan on going to ikea this week and will replace it with a plain coloured one.
FIXED:
- Replanted two plants. Will give away the old pots once they're washed.
- Put all the newly ripped music on my external drive.
- Organized my closet a bit as it was chaotic after December.
- Rearranged some stuff and one of my storage boxes became completely empty. It's collapsible so it's now in my closet awaiting spring when I will pack up all my gloves, hats and scarves.
- Ordered and art print of an owl I've kept my eyes on for months (from Etsy). Already have a frame in mind for it.
- Deleted a bunch of favorites off my laptop. I now have only 17 left!
- Folded and put away most of the laundry.
- Fixed one of my fav prints that had fallen to the side inside the frame. It had been bugging me for over a week and took about... a minute to fix.
- Looked up dance schools and found one I'll email this week. Yay!
2012 came off to a great start. I'm actually starting to see the difference at home and I'm loving it! :)
3 more DVDs in the donation bag - DH is slowly working his way through them.
Counted and organised all the coins I found in the car yesterday. Then collected up all the coins in the house and counted and bagged all those up too. It came to quite a lot: I need to park near the bank tomorrow or I won't be able to carry it all! But it's soo nice not having overflowing containers of coins everywhere. I usually chuck small coins in the donation box when I'm at the shops, but still those little coins breed relentlessly! I also bagged up a load of foreign coins for donation at the bank.
Task decluttered: added my Mum to my company health plan.
We are having a new bathroom fitted this week, so gave it all a very thorough clean (I see the irony of cleaning tiles, a bath and a sink that are about to be chipped off/scrapped!), moved out all the bottles (now we have 1 shampoo, 1 body wash etc this didn't take so long) and also moved furniture from the back room to the front - we are having a water pipe replaced too so there will be quite a bit of mess, I think.
Persuaded DH that it is ok to recycle our wedding cards from 4 years ago - I had set aside the special ones for the scrapbook, and also some we received when we got engaged. He thought we should keep them, but had no suggestions as to where to keep them! We felt very spoiled (in a good way) around the wedding with people's lovely cards, good wishes and gifts.. but I don't think that means we need to keep every card given to us, there are plenty of great memories.
Also out: a short tailored jacket into the charity bag, a 1-in-1-out for a bolero cardigan I bought in the sales.
Spent yesterday working in my bedroom. I moved 4 months ago and still not one room is completely unpacked/orderly.
Out to Goodwill: two trash bags of clothing. Seven books. One lamp. Three curtains that don't work anywhere in this house.
I emptied two plastic bins by decluttering their contents and moving what remained to smaller bins. There's now a small stack of empty bins in the study, but I'm not getting rid of any of them until I've finished with the whole house, because some of them could come in useful.
A couple of plastic plant pots into the recycling bin. These things have been plaguing me, I intended to take them to the re-use place at the local garden centre, but never got round to it. I'll do a few a week and whittle them down I think.
shoes that pinched
3 decorative boxes
candle holder
silly stocking stuffer
I pair of "holy" socks. Wool socks to be precise and grandma made many over the years, so I still have a couple of non-holy pairs.
Picked up some plastic pots in the garden--the wind had scattered them around. Into the recycling bin along with the new Yellow Pages for a neighboring community.
Some of DH's gloves and scarves remained in the hall closet. Moved to donation box.
Christmas cookies out to Church coffee hour yesterday. Hope their absence will make decluttering a few pounds easier.
Into the Goodwill bag- a plastic Halloween pumpkin and an unopened package of those socks they give you at the hospital.
Continued a bit more this afternoon: went through my wardrobe (inspired by Ella!) and put 2 lace vest tops and a knit top into the charity bag, plus set aside a handbag for a friend who has admired it. If she doesn't want it, I'll donate it. Plus an eye mask, that came as part of a Christmas set, that I find a bit scratchy.
2 ties to textile recycling bag. A couple of 'holey' socks :) This time of year the socks are disintegrating rapidly.
I declare (partial) victory over my paper files! There is now a rather heavy bag waiting in the hallway, to be taken to my office tomorrow for shredding. I have also decided which labels to put on the remaining files to get som order in there.
There is still some more sorting and possibly shredding to be done, but I've sorted out the worst parts.
a small victory over old-time thinking: threw out 3 pens that didn't write smoothly. In former times i would have tried "unclogging" the tip, heating them up or scribbling away until the ink flowed nicely, this time i didn't bother. They were not the expensive type anyway.
Took down the Christmas tree late last night - not taking the time to pack up the decorations properly because I wanted to go through them one last time, trying to get everything to fit in two boxes.
Success!
Added to the donation box: a couple of tree decorations and a wood snowman that I used to hang on my front door. After last year's sort, a sort as they went up, and this final sort today, all my Christmas decorations (including 2 Christmas pillows) fit in two boxes.
Oh wait. There's the wreath that didn't get put up this year. Pretty sure that will go next year, but for now, I can't be bothered digging it out from the back of the closet.
