The last three times we moved, we hired professionals (not sure anyone wouldn't in the UK except those who have very few items) and paid a bit extra so that they packed all our stuff for us. Best Money Spent EVER! It was about £150 extra, they had about 4 guys who swarmed the house and packed it all in a matter of hours. Awesome. Will never, ever move again without paying someone to pack everything up.
The time before last, we moved about 200 miles (that's cross country over here!), it took 3 days and they broke one single lampshade which was already fragile. Most impressed. Last time they broke nothing.
