Welcome to the ATAD challenge !

The challenge is about getting rid of one object a day, for... a month ? A year ? It´s up to you how long you want your challenge to last.

Whether you give away, trash or donate the object is immaterial, but it must be gone from your life and space. Putting it into storage doesn´t count; though you are allowed to, say, collect the things in a box to donate them at the end of the month.

Oh, and you´re also allowed to cheat and fill your quota ahead of time, like throwing out 7 things on Monday, making that a week´s worth of ATAD.

By telling us on here what you got rid of today will not only help with the accountability issues, you´ll also help others rethink their possessions (he got rid of his xyz ? Come to think of it, do I really need mine ?)

So, what did you set free today ?

Since I just startet uncluttering, ATAD is not enough. I decided to get rid of 1000 things within a year, which means something like three things a day to set free. I started on May 1st.

Today I got rid of three small bags.

I get rid of 3 bags a week on the average. And I still have tons left to get rid of.
    But I'm not giving up!

Taking my own advice, I got rid of 2 hobby related books. One for yesterday and one for today.

Today I threw away a "labor saving" tub scrubber. It never worked very well-pads wouldn't stay attached to velcro handle and it smelled funny. I did use the last pad to scrub out the dog's pool, so no guilt from throwing away something still useful-Yay! (Yes, dog has her own pool- Love my dog!:)

3 older cookbooks I don't ever remember using, several pens/pencils that were not re-usable or refillable, a couple dice that I've kept for probably 15 years- cuz you never know if you have all 5 dice in that yahtzee game, 3 or 4 items of clothing that I no longer wear, some old silverware that doesn't match what I use now, 3 info pamphlets that come with video games, 2 USB cords for iPods- we still have at least 3 left, old stationary that did not have envelopes that fit. Gosh- I do this at least once a month- I do not know where it comes from.

I got rid of some medicines today. Some of them were expired, while some were for problems that I don´t have any more (goodbye cold sores, thanks raw food !)
I´ll take them to the pharmacy tomorrow, I hope the guy will be in a good mood and give me some herbal candy as a reward.

I have a box and two bags and a stack of things ready for the month's trip to Goodwill. Last weekend I sorted out about two dozen music books or pieces of sheet music. This weekend I sorted out 11 big heavy artsy craftsy books and two novels to pass on to the library/a friend. And I made a pair of earrings for my friend out of stuff I already had - does that count?!

Last month's Goodwill trip was three bags full, plus a CD drawer thingy. I haven't been counting but I think I'm probably right around one "thing" per day for the year. :-)

Yes, making something does count because you are using up materials into something useful. I made a quilt not long ago with fabrics I already had stashed.

Today I added to my donate box: 3 art books that I'll never look at again and a huge handfull of pens that will go dry before I ever use them.

I made a large donation to a local ministry today. It included old organizing bins, two pens, several pieces of costume jewelry, five watches, kitchen utensils, two pairs of scissors, and some other stuff. I also listed my Nikon D40x on eBay on Sunday. No offers so far but as soon as I list something on eBay, I mentally consider it gone and will do whatever I must to sell it within the next month. I also gave my neighbor a bottle of wine I'll never drink, a box of large tea bags (won't use) and something else I can't remember, LOL!

You can get an idea of all the items I'm eliminating from my life by reading my blog at http://drawerbydrawer.wordpress.com/ and I know several of you subscribe. Thanks!

The bathroom is one of the least cluttered rooms in our house.

Yesterday I got rid of three cosmetic items I rarely or never used.

Today these three items left the bathroom.

Getting closer and closer to a unclutterd bathroom. :)

Theres a long weekend ahead and we are leaving for a short camping trip. So I had to work ahead a little bit.
This was a hard one. My sister recorded a childrens program for us for several years.
Today I decided for 30 of the tapes to leave. This was hard - because I know, there are treasures on these tapes. Single programs that explain basic physics for children. They would be sooooo useful for me to use at school.
But where are they on these tapes? Today I set free the idea to watch through 120 hours of childrens programs to find that one sequence about photovoltaics.

As soon as I decided to let go - I found it on youtube.

I have a camera bag by the door to leave with me today as well as a small bottle of mouthwash I don't like, my boyfriend does so it is going to him! I am finally letting go of a Radio Shack weather radio, I had several of them, bought in the 80s, LOL! One last item, some powdered drink stuff, it is being given away, too!

i am travelling for business in korea again, and lovely people here are giving me gifts!
i am going backwards in decluttering, but forwards in international relations!

yesterday i was given two beautiful injection-moulded silicone moulds.
they really are divine, but they aren't right for my production.
fortunately, i can pass them on where they will be lurved very much.

    This weeks "bye-bye" items are:
The big, brown 300 pound blanket (ok, it wasn't THAT heavy, but once under it, you were pinned to the mattress!)
150 white plastic hangers (I don't even know why I had these...or else I've given away A LOT of clothes!)
    2 film cameras
    3 frames
Dog dishes and accessories for a dog that passed away over a year ago :(
    2 chairs
and 2 boxes of things that I was going to fix and know I never will (and haven't missed!)

ArtGal - aren't frames difficult to toss? becuase, you know, they may come in handy one day and you want to keep them Justin Case :-P

It's not even 10am, and today's accomplishments are:

    - Finally gave away a pair of cute little earrings that were given to me by a friend who forgot I don't have pierced ears.
    - Tossed a small jewelry box with a broken lid and my daughter's IKEA lamp that started melting (ewww).
    - Did a recycle run and tossed two cardboard boxes that were living on the basement stairs landing.

I don't know if vegetation clutter counts, but yesterday I ripped out two dead thorny bushes. I suspect they were blueberry bushes, but I needed two pairs of gloves to be able to tear them out without being mauled. We moved in late winter, I waited two months for those bushes to start showing signs of life, then realized they were irreversibly dead. Out they went. I want to plant sunflowers in the little strip of patio that is now thorn-free.
