Wine Wedge solves need for traditional wine rack

A big “thank you” to our friends at Serious Eats for pointing us toward the new Wine Wedge. These two little rubber wedges allow you to have a wine rack of any size, whenever you need one. Retailing at $9.95 for the pair (available online from Firebox), the Wine Wedge also can be used for soda cans or other round containers. This is an inexpensive way to store wine without a cumbersome rack–perfect for a small space.

The New York Times gave the Wine Wedge what can only be considered a positive review:

The Wedge may not look very robust, but it works surprisingly well.

It’s wonderful to find quality storage solutions that take up very little space and cost very little money. Three cheers for the London-based firm Bluw and their uncluttered design.

    It looks like it is made from craft foam, which you can buy at the craft store in sheets (and it comes in lots of nifty colors). You could probably oragami & glue a sheet into a similar shape and get the same results.

    It says they are made from rubber so I doubt they are craft foam. (Though I thought the same thing at first glance.)

    I was thinking they would good for those of use who have cardboard tubes of old drawings and such.

    @Trish–They’re hard rubber, not squishy like craft foam.

    It probably only works well for bottles of same shape and size (notice the sample photo) - and only ones that are fairly cylindrical, at that. Mismatched bottles do not stack well, regardless of what’s stopping the bottom ones from rolling away.

    I think I’ll get my grandson to colour two paper towel tubes, and stick them to a cloth with velcro.

    As for odd shaped bottles, I wonder if strips of that rubber shelf protector stuff might give just enough friction to hold them well?

    You guys that are too cheap to buy the the real thing are making this overly complicated. The answer is duct tape. You won’t have to worry about the strength of the foam you are using or the shape of the bottle (I suspect box) of wine.

    @Dan — It can be used for any round object, like soda cans or beer bottles. Plus, unlike a giant wine rack, you can store it away when not in use.
