Workspace of the Week: Stylishly simple

This week’s Workspace of the Week is Sean’s mid-century modern table desk:

I really enjoy looking at this week’s workspace selection because it’s utilitarian, but not absent of style. The surfaces are uncluttered and free of distracting items to pull one away from actual work. The cables are nice and orderly, the large calendar is a striking point of focus, and the desk provides ample workspace to spread out materials if necessary. My guess is that less-often-accessed office supplies are contained in the drawers to the right of the desk. Thank you, Sean, for sharing your workspace with us.

Want to have your own workspace featured in Workspace of the Week? Submit a picture to the Unclutterer flickr pool. Check it out because we have a nice little community brewing there. Also, don’t forget that workspaces aren’t just desks. If you’re a cook, it’s a kitchen; if you’re a carpenter, it’s your workbench.

This I like!!! Especially the warm toasty color of the desk and chair. Nice contrast to the stark white around…

Looks like a wood door with legs bolted on. I approve!

Could someone please quiet down that calendar? It’s SHOUTING at me. Yikes!

Am I the only one that actually has papers as part of my paper work? Where is the storage for all that, especially work in progress?

I have had that door-desk for 20 years! Hollow core door and a set of folding legs. Awesome workspace and it hides behind the couch if you don’t need it.

oh!riley, I also have masses of paper. I liked this deep surface to place binders and file boxes at my fingertips

I like the desk itself, the calendar, but it seems like everything is very close to the door. Seems like the entry/exit flow is restricted, or are those closet/bathroom doors? If so, then I am only bothered by that wall right next to the chair.

This is lovely – and I’m intrigued by the idea that it “hides behind the couch if you don’t need it.” How? Hinges on the wall, the legs?

I’d welcome ideas from folks with a handy bent. How does yours work, Another Deb?

I love the look of the room, but not the flow. And that chair looks god-awful uncomfortable.

I like the colors and style, but I too think that it looks a bit big for the location. It almost looks like he moved the chair back to get up and take the picture. I’d bet that as soon as the photo was taken, Sean was sitting in it, posting the photo to flickr. And I’d guess he has a place nearby for paperwork, especially since I don’t see a scanner.

Question for Erin – is there a horrid lack of non-desk/office work area submissions? Or is it just that this type is what catches your eye? Just wondering.

I think this just proves you only need good cable management if you have too many things. fantastic desk.
