Workspace of the Week: Cable free, clutter free
This week’s Workspace of the Week is Breez110′s streamlined setup:
As is apparent in this week’s office, wireless touch pads, keyboards, and mice can make a significant difference in uncluttering a desk. Then, having speakers and monitors toward the back of the desk, makes it easy to hide the cables that are part of your setup. Breez110 has run all the cables across the back edge of the desk, down the legs of the desk, and then very nicely along the floorboards. The lack of device cables, coupled with excellent cable control on the devices that have them, make this a truly blissful space. It’s a blank slate that is ready for whatever work is thrown at it. Gorgeous. Thank you, Breez110, for your submission to our Flickr pool.
Want to have your own workspace featured in Workspace of the Week? Submit a picture to the Unclutterer Flickr pool. Check it out because we have a nice little community brewing there. Also, don’t forget that workspaces aren’t just desks. If you’re a cook, it’s a kitchen; if you’re a carpenter, it’s your workbench.

Love it. Cables always make desks/work areas look like such a mess. Love hiding them away. Especially useful in a small space where your office may be in plain sight.

Hopefully the sub-woofer’s location is just for the photo. Legroom would be at a minimum otherwise.

I really like this clean design and I find it functional in general. You can warm it up with photos or a few decorative items if you feel it’s too sterile. My only criticism is the wireless keyboard. I have an Apple wireless keyboard that I use with my iPad. It’s not fullsize and the key action isn’t the best. It’s still better than the touchscreen keyboard on the iPad, but it’s no substitute for a fullsize wireless keyboard if you have to type more than a few emails a day.
I used a $3.00 curtain rod attached to the back of my desk and a $12.00 shower curtain folded in half to hide the tangle of cables and external hard drive on the floor under my desk. It’s an asymetrical geometric print and I used two binder clips to lock it in place on the rod. I have to make changes fairly often and running things along the back and legs of the desk aren’t really feasible. Just an idea to share if you hate cables as much as I do.

Wireless devices need to be recharged and paired, and they can fail in many more ways.
That workspace is physically less cluttered, but it actually clutters up your life more.

God, I want this setup in my office!
My #1 pet clutter peeve is CORDS. We have nests of wires and cords in every room. The sleek cordless look seems to be hopelessly out of reach!

@Sam – I love the curtain rod idea for hiding the mess. Wireless is not always the way to go, and that is a great idea. Thanks for sharing!

I have also been struggling to de-clutter my office space and making it more relaxing. @Mike– I agree with you about the charging of wireless devices but hate the cords. I actually found a charging station that hides the cords; my wife and i are both able to use it
