Workspace of the Week: Kitty approved

This week’s Workspace of the Week is DelightfullyHostile’s anything-but-hostile home office:

The office is not in use to the same degree as last week’s featured workspace, but I like how a cat makes an appearance in this week’s selection. It’s a nice reminder that offices are designed and used daily by real people, and, in this case, also a sunny hangout spot for an adorable kitty. I like the floating shelves that aren’t too crammed with items. I like the prominence of the shredder, which looks ready to be used at a moment’s notice. I’m a little confused that there is no scanner, but it could be small and inside one of the drawers. Or, maybe there is a filing cabinet for paperwork not in this image if they don’t keep documents in physical form. Irrespective of scanner or filing cabinet, this small home office is terrific and looks like it is a nice place to sit and check email and maybe pay a few bills. Thank you, DelightfullyHostile, for sharing your workspace with us.

Want to have your own workspace featured in Workspace of the Week? Submit a picture to the Unclutterer flickr pool. Check it out because we have a nice little community brewing there. Also, don’t forget that workspaces aren’t just desks. If you’re a cook, it’s a kitchen; if you’re a carpenter, it’s your workbench.

Confused about no scanner? Some people live without!

@silverblue — I meant that since there is no filing cabinet, my guess is they use a scanner. Paperwork has to go somewhere (either kept physically in a cabinet or scanned and stored digitally). It appears I left out a sentence above. Ooops! :) Thankfully, it’s Friday!!

Okay … now I’ve gone in and added the sentence so hopefully the post makes a bit more sense now :)

Anyone know where the desk is from? I’m looking for a simple desk and I love this one!

Another couple of possible explanations of no scanner:

    – Uses a portable scanner, like the NeatReciepts, and keeps it in a drawer when not in use.

    – Uses a “scanner” app on their smartphone. I recently sold my NeatReceipts scanner in favor of using JotNot Pro. Similar quality results for standard docs and receipts.

OMG! I just printed out this pic to use as inspiration for my cluttered desk (clutter isn’t like me, but…)

Oh wait. That’s more clutter. Agh!

.. and that desk looks like one I’ve seen at IKEA. Also those shelves are obviously IKEA. Invisible hardware.

Pretty sure it’s all IKEA. Also, this is only a kitty-friendly office if those shelves can hold up the weight of said kitty, because my cat would treat them like a giant cat staircase and jump between them, flinging books off as she went.

Hi Erin: This is my office. You are only seeing a small section of it. We have a filing cabinet in the closet for important paperwork, and the printer/scanner is kept on a small table my husband built me by the door.

To Everyone Else: Yes, the shelves are from IKEA.
The desk is NOT from IKEA, it’s from Crate and Barrel but they no longer make it.

The shelves can hold Athena’s weight (she loves to climb on them and is only 9 pounds), but she’s never allowed in there alone, just in case anything were to happen.

@Jaimie — I knew there was a filing cabinet somewhere :) Love the office. Thanks again for your submission!!

Love the whole workspace, including the wall colour. The bar with sorting cups is a wonderful idea to get things off the desk. I’m definitely going to incorporate that idea as I re-do my desk area. And as much as I love the shelves, living in CA, I wouldn’t have the courage to put anything on them. One earthquake and it’s all over…..

What is the paint brand and color? I just love it. And the office looks so uncluttered and serene. Want to use it for inspiration. Way to go.

@kalle – The bar with the cups comes from IKEA. The bar comes in a few different lengths and the cups come in several colors. I actually just exchanged mine for white ones, which they were out of last time I stopped in.

@Pat Collins – The paint is Valspar brand. It used to be called “River Inlet” but they changed all the names a couple years after we bought it the first time. I believe it’s called “Tropical Bay” now. It’s a bit darker in person than it looks in this photo.
