Workspace of the Week: Small-space simplicity in black

This week’s Workspace of the Week is TypeFiend’s (Gregory Han’s) closet office:

I don’t usually choose offices from our Flick pool that I know have already been highlighted on other websites for our Workspace of the Week selection. However, I’m so in love with TypeFiend’s office that I’m making an exception. Check out “The Black Hole Home Office” on Unplggd to see how a walk-in closet has been transformed into a home office paradise (well, at least for someone who isn’t claustrophobic). The office extends to the left where a printer, equipment, and office supplies are stored. Thank you, TypeFiend, for your submission to our Flickr pool.

Want to have your own workspace featured in Workspace of the Week? Submit a picture to the Unclutterer flickr pool. Check it out because we have a nice little community brewing there. Also, don’t forget that workspaces aren’t just desks. If you’re a cook, it’s a kitchen; if you’re a carpenter, it’s your workbench.

It’s good to see that someone has finally attacked the problem of cubicles beeing too bright, airy, and cheerful by boldly taking design inspriration from a Satanic altar. Well done. Well done indeed.

Sam, you made me laugh out loud this morning. Thank you for that!

I admire the utility and simplicity of the space itself, but the decor is frightening. If you read the post at unplugged, he explains his inspiration came from a Clockwork Orange, along with other images..huh. That light fixture is scary.

Talk about getting the MOST out of a space! Wow – lots going on in such a tight space, but if it works for him then that’s all that matters. Interesting design and decor!

    TGIF!

I like it! I think all it needs is some sort of accent color to finish it up.

Phew, frightening indeed! It may be a great use of space but it wouldn’t work for me. I can’t have my back facing out. I once had an office where my back was to the door and I never felt comfortable. Then I read a Feng Shui book and learned that your back should be protected.

I believe any project initiated in this workspace could only be described as nefarious and dastardly with an air of mystical dystopianism. Perhaps this is Justin Bieber’s manager’s desk.

I like the black purely for the illustion of space.

Erin, a typo — should be “claustrophobic”.

The work space is clever, but for me it would be unmitigatedly depressing.

Well, it’s certainly a creative use of space. I’m with the other commenters, though. I couldn’t work with my back to the door like that, and the light fixture kinda freaks me out. Also, while I’m not necessarily opposed to small spaces, I’d need some lighter coloring or I would definitely feel claustrophobic.

I love it. The old one was garish compared to the beauty of the new one. No light coloring required for me. You are going to fix the already mentioned misspelling of claustrophobic, right?

OMG … the light fixture! … LOL.

I would hate working in it, but it sure is fun to look at.

It’s a closet with a window in it – that does help a little, doesn’t it?

    Love it!

Typefiend has featured his home office space in another apartment…which was bright and cheerful! Wonder why he went to the dark side. Not my favorite.

jbeany- that’s not a window. that’s the portal to the land of the living that he uses to drag souls to Hell. i believe Buffy called it a ‘hellmouth’. he must live in Sunnydale… and manage Justin Bieber’s career.

Hey Jude… I guess she’s not going to make it better.
