XFit: The hidden home gym
If you don’t have a dedicated room for a home gym, you probably try to disguise your unattractive tread mill or weight bench as best as possible. Or, like me, you join a local gym so you don’t have to hide and store gym equipment in your home.
The Italian company Angelo Dall’Aglio has designed the XFit home gym — complete with 19″ LCD television, DVD player, tread mill, weight bench, and weights — that fits inside a custom wardrobe so hiding and storing unsightly gym equipment is simple. I think this piece is perfect for fitness enthusiasts who live in small spaces:

According to the website SocialWorkout.com, the XFit is currently retailing for 4,649 Euros (about $6,264). So, you would need to pay a pretty penny to have one in your home. However, I take this as a good sign that over the next couple years we might see some more reasonably priced competitors.
I love the idea of a place for everything, especially unattractive home gym equipment! Check out the XFit marketing video to learn about the construction of this unit.

That really does look pretty tidy. And for most people would probably sufficient for some daily exercise.

You can get a good workout without buying a thing, if you are motivated. And if you are not motivated, all the fancy toys in the world won’t help.

I think ALL home gym equipment should be so conciderate!

+1 to @Sandman. Most people can get more exercise than they’ll really do with no equipment whatsoever.

Wow, looks like a wii fit would be a far better choice. My wife uses it every day and has does incredibly well. The money saved by not paying for gym memberships and getting rid of everything but the stationary bike has created a ton of room.

land sakes, a bowflex costs less than that.

Now if you could get the girl pictured to come with the XFit…

^The girl pictured has zero muscle tone and doesn’t even know how to work the cable. Sad.

@Joe – ditto. Great point @Sandman!

Either you forgot a period or put the comma in the wrong place.
Did you mean $6,263.40, instead of $6,2634?

I have to agree with @Sandman. If you’re motivated to exercise you’re better off without this overpriced equipment. You can get plenty of exercise without any equipment. For the amount of money you pay for this setup, you could easily pay for several years of gym memberships.

That’s pretty awesome.
Considering that I’m currently put-off from buying the WiiFit due to its price, the Xfit probably will not have a place in my home in the immediate feature. But it’s definitely cool.

Sure, no one *needs* gym equipment to get a workout, but that’s the way some prefer it. If you have more money than space but hate going to the gym, this looks like a great solution. My husband loathes the gym, so we have some equipment in a room we have dedicated to that purpose. Me, I need the motivation of the gym membership and watching the grannies lift twice as much as I can and the nice young attendants to help me improve my form, so I rarely use the home equipment.

Very elegant. For a lot less money, take a look at suspension training or resistance bands. Even better, bodyweight exercises. Search under “portable gym,” “bodyweight training,” “functional training.”
Add a folding treadmill, elliptical or bike trainer and you’re set.
You can attach the bands or suspension device to a doorway, eliminating the need for a bench.

Maybe you sholud buy equipment that is not “unattractive” and “unsightly” so you don’t feel the need to hide it? Really, why should be some dumbbells considered less attractive than an average table?

Hidden? That giant brown box? Anyway, I like having my exercise machine out in the open. Makes it more likely that I’ll use it.

To each their own, I guess. I much prefer to do bodyweight exercises at home, so a yoga mat and maybe a stability ball is all the equipment I need. Then again, I have a gym membership for everything else.
@chacha1 — Agreed. At the very least you’d think they’d bother to give models a bit of coaching as to how to use the equipment… or pose them properly?

I think the most important aspect to consider is the ratio of usage to price. There are great exercises you can do without any equipment at all (some have already mentioned bodyweight exercises). Right now, all I have is a good mat.
What I’d still like to buy is a WaterRower. The company also makes WaterWorkx, which is an “exercise wall” similar to the one featured here, but personally I think their design (of both the WaterRower and the WaterWorkx) is so beautiful, that I wouldn’t be ashamed of showing it. In fact, they look so pretty I *want* to show them!

i’ve never seen exercise equipment look so attractive and inconspicuous but that is a hefty price tag! while its nice to be able to hide the exercise equipment, there is also an element of it sitting out in the open and taunting you until you use it!

6 grand for this? I have a gym membership in a decent place, for $30 a month. $6000 would last me for over 15 years.
Want to get rid of workout equipment clutter? Get a gym membership, instead of turning your house into one…
