Workspace of the Week: Streamlined and simple

This week’s Workspace of the Week is Johannes_G’s bare bones home office:

I chose this office because its minimalist style is extremely calming. There isn’t anything here to distract the owner while he works. In the notes about the image, Johannes_G says that he deliberately got rid of an external monitor and chose to only use the laptop screen to keep the setup uncluttered. I prefer to work with two monitors for improved productivity, but I’m happy to read that careful thought went into the selection process for each of the desk’s items. So often people put items and equipment on their work surfaces out of habit instead of with intentional action. Seeing this desk made me pause and look at my desk to see if anything was on it out of habit instead of need. Thank you, Johannes_G, for your addition to our Flickr pool.

Want to have your own workspace featured in Workspace of the Week? Submit a picture to the Unclutterer flickr pool. Check it out because we have a nice little community brewing there. Also, don’t forget that workspaces aren’t just desks. If you’re a cook, it’s a kitchen; if you’re a carpenter, it’s your workbench.

That’s a sharp looking workspace! It reminds me of how I work: laptop, mouse, pen/pencil, and beverage. At the moment mine resides in my backpack rather than a dedicated space. I aspire to something more like this, once I find the desk I want at a price I am willing to pay.

I do like the choice of laptop and laptop stand – eerily similar to the one on my desk :)

Best wishes to your friend undergoing surgery. Your important reminder was beautifully written.

I really like that clean workspace. I’d so mimic it if my eyes weren’t so bad, and could afford a snazzy bluetooth and mouse combo, oh and also find a worth enough stand for my laptop. I love the nice large desktop though.

Thanks for the (second) feature. I consider it a clear sign that maybe I should relax a bit and add a bit of clutter to my life. This is starting to resemble the symptoms of OCD. haha!

On a side note. I do not recommend that type of laptop stands. (Griffin Elevator) The grip gets worse with the years and many people have woken up in the middle of the night with the laptop smashed on the floor. If you already got one and you’ve noticed the laptop sliding a bit, wash the rubber pads on the Griffin Elevator with hot water to reduce the effect (or eliminate it temporarily)

I love the tapestry in back and the wood walls. Makes it feel like a writer’s cabin. Also if I’m not mistaken the desk is placed by a window – great choice!

    Lovely workspace :-)

Where did you find such a beautiful tapestry?

Nice! I have a nice dining room table as my desk. Oh someday I will have my own, very own office again! Until then, I may move to Starbucks!
