We recently came across the following new YouTube video of him giving a tour and we’re particularly impressed by the amount of storage space. (This is SERIOUSLY INSPIRING. So how much to you REALLY need. via @tracyshaun) [...]

Go to marinas and check out the square footage of some of the boats people live on (not In). We spend our summers in very similar space. In Alberta during the boom, there weren't enough places to live, so many workers lived in trailers (larger than) or truck campers (similar to) the size of this, and weren't complaining. The secret is to live "outside the box", and to live in an area with nice weather so you can be outdoors or someplace else a lot.

People have been living in small houses for years.

Why is it that people can accept little houses but for some reason they can't accept gypsies and travellers?

There is no difference except their houses have wheels. They travel for work, pay their taxes and generally live a carbon friendly lifestyle.

How many people who 'love' this small house 'do not love' gypsies and travellers.

Think about it.

I love this! We moved from 3,000 sq. feet to 2,000 and soon 1500 square feet for a family of six. I thought I was becoming a minimalist! I look forward to the extra time and $ we'll save!

Very cool! I love thinking the issues that go along with tiny living. How much do I really want? How do I organize that? How much living space would I be comfortable with? Would my comfort level re-set after a while?

Wow, I'm impressed. But I would go INSANE living in a space that tight. I couldn't last a day. Probably because I need to declutter just a tad, which is what brings me to this blog to begin with.

I love this little house -- especially that sleeping loft. It made me want to crawl up there and go to sleep! So cozy.

It's interesting that he is building a 500 sq. ft. house to share with his wife and baby. When my house was built in 1933, it was only 500 square feet of living space, with an unfinished daylight basement below that they used for a garage. I've always wondered about the family who built it, how they lived in it -- for our family of three even the current house feels small, and it's more than twice its original size. (They added two very small bedrooms on the side, another 250 square feet, in the forties, and finished part of the basement in the fifties to bring the living space up to 1450.) I'm going to check out his other videos to see if there's one about the 500 sq. ft. house. I need some tips!

Although once I've uncluttered my life in 7 days it might be easier... ;-) Loving the book so far, Erin!

Wow Jesse, I'm a little surprised. I admit, because of stereotype, I assumed what you did. But why would he lie? It makes little sense to pretend for a website. I also don't know if he's "obsessed" with efficiency, but he clearly values different things than, well, "things". He's making a smaller footprint, so he's cutting back.

Why do we assume that people have to go absolutely to the limit to be "legit" in their pursuits? I mean I don't have a Japanese art gallery in my house, but I love it. Is that interest illegitimate because I don't make every aspect of my life fall into that realm?
