Whilst I am a bit late to discover this, I would like to say thank you for the writeup about my work area - sadly it has changed as I needed a larger desk and I am yet to work out a nice layout for it right now. But I must say I was pleasantly surprised just then when I finally got around to checking my Flickr referrals!

@David Turnbull - sadly it does look like a pigsty when I have gadgets and stuff all over when I am tinkering or studying!

Thankyou unclutterer - made my night :)

@ K.

I have a little nook in my bedroom where the box and my laptop (sat on top) go. Tucked away, out of traffic and only myself and my husband know that it is there.

Beautiful space, but not so ergonomically friendly!!! Get that mouse and keyboard on an adjustable pull-out platform, like one from Humanscale. It'll save your back, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, etc. in the long run! (not to mention the saved desk space)

@Lose That Girl: Where do you store your laptop and white box when you're not losing it? Do they have a permanent storage place somewhere?

I love to look at well organized spaces. It's always interesting to see how different people make their spaces work for them.

Looking at the picture I posted, I just realized that the flip-out work surface forces me to clear it and put the tools away, keeping it more organized than is normally my nature. I'm really kind of a slob.

It is the Walmart shelving, and I, too have had no problems with durability. It was on sale for like $89 a set when I got it.

@ Nicole 86

I can send pix to Erin but there's not much to see. We do have a printer but it's in my husband's home office. I don't have any paper files other than what fits in my Ikea Kassett box. Pretty simple, really.

I bought several sets of that shelving a few years ago, and love it. Living in a pretty small apartment, one thing I use it for is a sort of equipment station on casters that I can move around as needed. An old closet door became a flip-out workbench.

This shot is from a build log a while back, so is as I use it, not tidied up for any kind of uncluttered look ;-)

Note the extensive use of binder clips.

That's quite a nice workspace. Always wonder what they look like on an average day though. This one especially lends itself to quick decluttering, but that doesn't exactly mean it isn't cluttered most of the time. :)

I think I may have the ultimate in uncluttered workspaces. I work from my laptop on the dining room table with a white box from Ikea by my side. All my supplies are in this box. When it's time to pack up, in goes my thesaurus, internet stick, camera, writing agreements et al....and I cart the box and my laptop away for storage.
Clean, no permanent reminder of an office and it can go literally anywhere!

I know most people probably can't have an "office in a box", but for my job it works perfectly and I don't have to worry about hiding away an office when people come over.

I need to check that Walmart sheliving out. I was going to purchase a couple large custom wire rolling shelves from Global International ($200 each), but am open to cheaper alternatives if they're durable.

She might have used Metro shelving, but you can buy the same shelves at Walmart for less money: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=3429395

I bought some almost ten years ago, I've moved three times, and they're all still in great shape.
