Workspace of the Week: Privacy begone
This week’s Workspace of the Week is 0June0’s open-to-everyone desk at work:
When I made a call for entries a couple weeks ago, this was the exact kind of office I wanted to see more of in the Unclutterer Flickr Pool. So often, our offices in buildings outside our homes are anything but ideal. This desk lacks privacy and walls — yet its owner has stepped up and made it into an area where work can really get done. There is a designated inbox and outbox, an area under the left side of the desk where the worker can store documents that need to be exchanged with co-workers, and only those things that are regularly used are on the top of the workspace. Filing cabinets are nearby, for relatively easy access. A great entry, 0June0, thank you for your submission to our pool.
Want to have your own workspace featured in Workspace of the Week? Submit a picture to the Unclutterer flickr pool. Check it out because we have a nice little community brewing there. Also, don’t forget that workspaces aren’t just desks. If you’re a cook, it’s a kitchen; if you’re a carpenter, it’s your workbench.

This workspace is almost too clean! Kudos for keeping it that way. Wow.

I love the open feel of this. It gives it a welcoming space, but it is still focused.

Love the clock on the monitor!

The clock is a screensaver (one of my favorites). You can grab it here: http://www.9031.com/downloads/screensavers.html.

Cordless would help. Come to think of it why do almost all computer desks include a mouse pad – is that not pure clutter? I haven’t used a mouse pad for years, simply not necessary, one more thing on the desk and goodness knows there is too much stuff on there already!

Wow! The workspace of the week is more than I could expect!
Yes, it’s true: cordless would help but…I can’t choose…
Regarding the mouse pad I use it also as the unique decorative item on my desk…Clutter? May be, but only a little, isn’t it?

@ Malcom: Some surfaces need a mouse pad for protection. Our new office has desktop surfaces of corian counter top laid across filing cabinet bases. We need mouse pads because the mice leave faint scratches in the surface. Our old wooden surfaces showed little circle areas of wear where the mice were being used daily by coworkers who didn’t use the pads.

Great workspace, terrible view. I say she gets to keep the colorful mouse pad to make up for having to stare at a big black monolith all day.
Nice job, Jane!

PS… yes, mouse use will also wear away the pattern or color in a laminate desktop, which looks worse than a mouse pad.

God, how depressing. :-/
