Unitasker Wednesday: Microwave Popcorn Storage Dispenser

All Unitasker Wednesday posts are jokes — we don’t want you to buy these items, we want you to laugh at their ridiculousness. Enjoy!

This week’s unitasker comes to us from reader Debra. For just $15, you can own the Microwave Popcorn Storage Dispenser and have a container to hold your unpopped bags of popcorn — just like the box the popcorn bags are sold in:

With a footprint of 7.5″ x 6.5″ you can sacrifice a good portion of your kitchen counter space for this quaint device! Sure, when you store your microwave popcorn bags in the box they came in inside your pantry you sacrifice no counter space whatsoever — but we shouldn’t think about that. Ignore the obvious! Buy a Microwave Popcorn Dispenser today!

    It’s so cute, though!

Unclutterer finds the CRAZIEST stuff out there! Hilarious!

I have a big, colorful bowl on a pantry shelf that holds popcorn bags, granola bars, fruit snacks and individual cracker packets, mini raisin boxes – like a big treat/snack bowl. It takes up less space that all of the boxes would take up and it’s fun to dig around in the bowl and find a snack!

Aww, I think it’s adorable! However, if I had one I wouldn’t sacrifice counter space for it – I’d put it in the pantry where I’d normally keep the popcorn anyway.

That being said, I think I’ll stick with the box it comes in. :)

Oh no – I agree with Rue-It is very cute-I could keep it in the pantry….I guess decluttering is a process!

Like Dawn F., I keep a pretty bowl in my living room and fill it with snacks such as raisins, individual applesauce containers, etc. I also keep spoons in the bowl to eat the applesauce with. It makes eating healthy snacks so much easier. My family seems more inclined to eat these snacks when they are in the bowl than when they are on a shelf in my pantry.

I need to come up with a crazy unitasker idea so that I can make some money. There are always plenty of people out there who will buy this stuff simply because they think it’s cute!

You could also buy the Plastic Popcorn Holders (http://tinyurl.com/ydpo7qg) to go with it!

‘kay, it’s cute. it looks like it belongs in one of those kitschy catalogs that sell muu muus, hair nets, and silly tshirts.

definitely doesn’t belong in my kitchen. :)

This is perfect for the man who has a home theatre room complete with microwave and beer fridge. See, the popcorn get stored in the co-ordinated popcorn storage box (set on top of the beer fridge, beside the candy bar storage box, and chip bag holder), and then, when he wants a snack during a movie, he just pulls one and puts it in the (red) microwave that matches!

    Eeepers…

There unitasker’s are my favorite things. It just makes me laugh. I wish there were a person in the world who owned all of them just so that I could see pictures.

LMAO…I actually have one of these, different color and all but same thing. I got it as a gift from my mother in law. It sits in an empty corner, only because I do have the space for it. But if I ever needed the space, it would go in the closet (or the garbage if I could get away with it).

this is truly, truly a piece of crap…

Heads up: Oprah will have a new show about hoarding airing tomorrow (Thurs, Oct. 8)

That’s Thurs Oct 8 minus the smiley. ;)

I keep my snacks, food packets, etc., in two rectangular white ice buckets–the kind that normally would go into the freezer–which slide very neatly into one of the 11.5 x 11.5″ cubicles in the modular shelf unit which is my kitchen pantry and pan storage. The few kitchen cabinets I have are all above my head, so I use those for dishes and other pans. Anyway, the white ice rectangular ice buckets are very neat and modern looking, and would work just as well on a regular shelf. Oh, and they’re cheap, too. ;-)

Those are “white rectangular ice buckets,” not “white ICE rectangular ice buckets.” :-P I wish WordPress allowed us to edit our comments…

I think this may be the unitaskeriest unitasker you have ever found. Bravo!

I actually think that microwave popcorn itself should be banned from the house.. there is just way too much salt and fat in those things and they are so overpriced too. Buy a bulk bag of unpopped corn, and when you want popcorn just pour half a cup into a brown paper bag, fold the open end up and twist the corners to seal then microwave as normal. Flavour with as much salt or melted butter as you want or don’t want and you can control how much popcorn you eat too ;)

OMG! How cute!! Do they make one simial for kernal corn, the type you make yourself?? I like that kind better because then I dont have to have all that salt and butter on my popcorn! I get amazing popcorn from http://www.justpoppin.com My favorite is hulless popcorn… it’s like the hulls never existed… and when my cousin – who has braces – and I watch movies @ my place, she can eat it too!! If someone finds one, lemme know.

Aren’t packets of microwave popcorn clutter on their own? ;)

We just have one large tub of corn kernels which we use for both popcorn (as in: dump in a pan with some oil) and soup (soaked in water, then boiled)

    greetings from the netherlands! ;)

I second everyone who advocates buying corn kernels instead of microwaveable popcorn.

My boyfriend’s big gripe about not having a microwave oven was the absence of popcorn. Believe it or not, he’d never made popcorn without a microwave. I introduced him to the kernels-in-a-pan-with-oil method, and now he’s putting all sorts of spices in his popcorn, which usually turns out pretty amazing.

I agree with those who go with the Alton Brown (paper bag) method. It’s so much better for you and it tastes a lot better.

Really, popcorn is not rocket science. Sure, it’s a controlled explosion but that’s half the fun.

I think it would be adorable if you had a movie room and added it to the theme. you could also add it to your childs playroom.

Absolutely adorable! However, not sure it’s exactly a space saver….. :P

I think this is a good example of something that just doesn’t cross cultures…not only does it seem to be the quintessential Unitasker, to me it is also quite hideous. It also seems a bit surprising that people have enough microwave popcorn bags to need separate storage, just how much popcorn do people eat? What’s wrong with a fruitbowl – full of fresh fruit – as a snack container?

I have to agree, this one is pretty bad! (Although it is cute).
