Workspace of the Week: Hundevad Secretary
This week’s Workspace of the Week is HundevadFan’s Danish modern disguised desk:

First off, this week’s entry was submitted as a “private” photograph to the Unclutterer flickr pool. This means that I can see it when I’m logged in as the group’s administrator, but there isn’t a public link for me to share with you. I don’t usually link to the “private” photographs (there are hundreds of them, by the way), but this one was so amazing that I wanted to share it with you.
The piece is made of teak, was purchased off eBay, and beautifully hides an entire workspace. The owner stores paper files in the containers underneath the drawer, a printer, and office supplies behind the bottom two doors. The shelves at the top of the unit are adjustable, so the desk’s owner has put them at book and CD height. My only question is where does the Herman Miller chair live when the desk isn’t in use? I’m always curious about where people store the chairs.
Thank you, HundevadFan, for submitting your workspace.
Want to have your own workspace featured in Workspace of the Week? Submit a picture to the Unclutterer flickr pool. Check it out because we have a nice little community brewing there. Also, don’t forget that workspaces aren’t just desks. If you’re a cook, it’s a kitchen; if you’re a carpenter, it’s your workbench.

Beautiful desk.
People make photos private on flickr for a reason. I hope you asked for permission (check the users flickr license) before posting.

Is that a real Herman Miller? It looks like it might be a knock-off. Yes, I have chair-envy, okay, I admit it!!

Beautiful desk. Any idea where he got it?

I love teak furniture! This piece is beautiful. The submitter has quite a collection of music CDs, but they are nicely displayed. I like that old-fashioned looking stereo component – cool!
TGIF!

@Lindsay — It’s a Herman Miller Mirra chair. It looks like all the other Mirra’s I’ve seen. If it is a knock off, it’s a really good one.
@Theresa — He bought it off eBay.

@Khurt — If you submit it to our flickr pool, it’s fair game. That is one of the requirements to submit to the pool. I just don’t usually post the private pictures because you can’t click on them.

Wow what a gorgeous piece… where does one get something like that?

Wow! So beautiful! This setup would never work for me, but I envy it anyway. (Usually if something isn’t practical for me, it’ll stop my envy in its tracks, but not this time!) And the Tivoli stereo is perfect right there.

This is beautiful! I love the way everything is ordered and how it can be changed to suit their needs.

Snitzels – search your local Craigslist furniture section for “mid century” or “danish” or “secretary”. There are some real gems in my local (Portland, OR), both by owner and dealer.

That’s one fully stocked workspace and I like the Mirra, maybe like myself the owner couldn’t justify the extra step to the price of an Aeron!
I’m puzzled though, what happens when HundevadFan gets another CD or book? For those admiring the piece I suspect the “nickname” alludes to Poul Hundevad, he’s a Danish furniture designer.

That is one beautiful piece of furniture, but it looks cluttered to me. It hide everything nice.

Hello all. HundevadFan here. I’m delighted to have been chosen for Unclutterer’s “Workplace of the Week”.
Thanks for the very kind comments.
To be sure, it WAS my intent to make my Flickr photographs public. Indeed I chose the setting “Anyone can see this photo” for all 3 images. Not sure what I need to do to make the links public, but would be happy to do so. Please advise.
The featured piece is teak and is vintage Danish Modern, designed by Poul Hundevad (thus my “name”) and I won it on a 2005 ebay auction for $900 from a terrific vendor in Norway/Canada who has, very unfortunately, since stopped selling on ebay.
The chair is an authentic HermanMiller Mirra, which I chose as an affordable alternative to the Aeron, and it pretty much stays put since the desktop is almost always down for work purposes.
The stereo is indeed a Tivoli Audio “Executive Music System” in special wenge finish for Frontgate. My wonderful wife spotted it in the Frontgate catalog and it is perfect for the space.
@Don: I’ve got another bookshelf (also by Hundevad) full of books, so the secretary only holds what will fit. And these days I mostly download music on iTunes, so the CD collection is unlikely to grow beyond what is already there.
The cleanest image of the unit is at this link:

Thanks again to all for the very nice comments!
