Small space fun and games
While surfing through the Apartment Therapy website over the weekend, I found this brilliantly designed space-saving door/ping-pong table and knew I had to share it with you:

I especially like that when the unit is acting as a door you can remove the net and use the metal structure as a towel bar. (It’s more clear that this is possible in photographs on the AT site.)
This incredibly functional design comes from Tobias Franzel. I couldn’t find a retail outlet selling the doors, so you’ll need to contact the designer through his website for custom information. Even if you never buy one of these doors, it is still an inspiring and clever product design.
I love when people think outside the box … or, in this case, the door.
(According to AT, the images are by Marcel Koehler.)

Actually NOT functional for playing any form of table tennis. Another design student project. The meditation bench does look good though.

Maybe not functional for table tennis enthusiasts, but for most people, very awesome!

Come on, jfb3, don’t hate. Yeah, so this isn’t a regulation size table. But what’s the alternative? It’s a plain, boring door. This is way cooler.
Plus, the only way to make this work would be to become *better* at table tennis. Only a rookie needs a whole, huge table. A true pro could play on any sized surface.

Is it me, or does the door in the second photo seem oddly short? I hope the guy “modelling” it is inordinately tall (or the images use forced perspective, though somehow I doubt it); I’d hate to think the owners of a ping-pong table door run the risk of scraping the scalp off their heads every time they walk through the door…

This design is genius, though we would probably want to play Beer-Pong on it (given the proper supports), it is very cool.
