IF Mode folding bike

We love following trends in folding bikes because regular bicycles hog up so much space in our homes. This week, we’ve found Areaware’s IF Mode folding bike:

The clean and striking IF Mode is aimed at commuters of the mobile generation who, until now, may have not considered cycling or folding bikes to be an option. IF Mode avoids oily chains, complex tubes with hidden dirt traps, and the clutter of traditional bike features. Meant for city commuters rather than bicycle warriors, it looks at home folded up on a subway or in an office, like other well designed accessories in your life. It also performs on the street like any lightweight, well-balanced full size bike.

I agree, it is a very attractive piece of industrial design. If you’re in the market for a folding bike, check out the IF Mode as well as the others we have reviewed over the years.

That’s a nice bike, although I gave up on the traditional bike years ago. Recumbent is where it’s at for a comfy ride. In fact I went Super-clutterer and bought my wife and I Recumbent tadpole trikes http://www.greenspeed.com.au/ to handle a 10 mile commute daily.

We hang them on the wall in the bedroom to keep them out of the way. I really wish I could get a folding one like this neat bike though for space savings in the winter months.

I have been riding a folding bike in Japan for the past 5 years. It is very useful to have bike that you can store in tight spaces in a space-limited country like Japan. Looking for a replacement so I will have to check this bike out!

Folding bikes are great, and I am sure that this bike is high quality. At its price, it would unclutter my bank account as well . . . .

I can’t ride a bike (gasp! I know…), but I think this looks cool! Almost makes me want to learn.

    … Almost.

I like this one a lot. I’ve been wanting to ride my bike more for the fitness and savings benefit. And it will even fold up and can be stored under the bed…

*timgray–New to the market: a folding three-speed adult trike–check online. It folds into a 36×36 space. Unfortunately, it isn’t a recumbent. I have balance problems and crave a Sun 23-speed recumbent, but it’s a little pricey.

No fenders. No place to mount a rack, or lights.

Just things to keep in mind when considering the real utility of this bike.
