A breadmaker is NOT a unitasker because it mixes and kneads the dough (no small task), warms it for rising, punches it down, and then (if you wish) bakes the loaf too. Or beeps at you so you can shape your own rolls or loaf.

But all this muffin baker does is bake them. I admit to owning a unitasker waffle iron, but I don’t know how else you can make waffles? And what a pain to clean…

@Margaret: You could also take a 6 or 12 muffin pan and only fill three. Fill the rest with water I heard, so the pan doesn’t get warped.

You can make muffins in a toaster oven or toaster oven/microwave combo; that’s probably a more sensible choice than this.

Laugh at the unitaskest of Magic Muffin Maker all you want but I can testify it makes perfect muffins every time with much less mess and bother than making muffins in an oven. Had one of these for years, wouldn’t part with it for the world.

My kids love fresh, hot muffins for their bedtime snack. We have a plastic muffin maker for the microwave. It makes 7 muffins in about a minute and a half. It also works for biscuits and corn bread. I have a recipe for muffin mix to which I just need to add water, so it’s perfect. We use it about 3 nights a week. And it doesn’t heat up the kitchen in the summer.

For gifts, my sister usually gives me something she wants to try, but doesn’t want to spend the money on herself in case it doesn’t work as promised. (Um… I think that makes me a gift guinea pig) She doesn’t buy me appliances though, thank goodness. She once bought herself a crepe maker. Hello… just use a decent skillet and you’re good to go.

A while ago she gave me a set of those silicone individual muffin cups. They are fantastic for space saving as they take up far less room than a muffin tin, and sit atop a cookie baking sheet in the oven. I thought washing them might be a pain, but not so. Our family runs on a more traditional schedule of having a baking day once a week when we bake for the week and freeze. You sacrifice the pleasure of “fresh from the oven” but the time saved is worth it, and we save energy by running the oven far less.

With three teenage sons, I always double the recipe and never bake fewer than two dozen muffins at a time. Half of those muffins vanish before they’ve even cooled!

It’s not so much that this thing makes only three at a time (which is fine for single folks) but that it is basically a muffin tin with an “oven” attached, making it a prime Unitasker. Imagine if all your baking dishes had “ovens” attached to them! Space-saving?

But, wait, Mr. Pitchman, I am the mom of three in a family of five–Who’s gonna want to wait for another batch to bake? The kids are hungry now and hubby has to leave for work.
How about a muffin maker for five or six at a time?
Well, yells Mr. Pitchman, ala Billy Mays, just you wait, for next week we will be introducing our latest product, just for moms like you!

Next Week: It’s Vince, the sham(scam)-wow guy touting the virutes of a muffin maker for 6, and it has an optional muffin top maker only insert. Made by the germans, because you know they make good stuff!!!

Although I agree that this is an unnecessary appliance, some of the objections aren’t really sensible. 1) I’m sure it comes with recipes for batter in the right amount and suggestions for conversion; 2)muffin batter freezes, so you can make a batch for the normal 12, and freeze the leftover in 3 batch-appropriate units; 3)you can measure half an egg by beating it until uniformly mixed and measuring half of it.

I have one of these, and I love it! I freeze ready made muffin mix, and pull one muffin’s worth out of the freezer the night before. Then in the morning, I pop it in the muffin maker while I get dressed, and by the time I’m ready to go my breakfast muffin is ready. Mmm, fresh muffins for breakfast!

It’s really easy to make muffins in this too, they also come out perfect. And if I make more than three, I’ll eat more than three

I’m a vegan, halving recipes would not be a problem at all.
I can’t buy my 3 muffins from a bakery, there’s none baking vegan stuff in my area.
I’m also single, so heating up the whole big oven even for 6 muffins (I have a tin for 6) feels like a waste of energy.
I still wouldn’t buy the thing, allthough i’d envy a person, who would…
I’d be a fraid that if I buy this thing, i’d start buying all sorts of unitaskers.

Knitwych, I’m with you on baking and freezing leftover muffins. I’ve been doing it for many years. Another idea is to give them to someone who loves home baked goods.

Sorry to bust your bubble However! This is great for Single people who are on a diet and would like a taste of homemade goodies. Not that I own one.
