Friends of mine recently did that but in their 500 sq foot apartment by building a platform. their office space is above the TV and entertainment center. you climb 5 stairs that are also bookshelves to get up to it. Only doable because of the really tall 16 foot ceiling. I'm envious of their floor to celing bookshelves from ikea that line the walls, they got tired of looking at sandblasted industrial brick. Nice use for a huge living room corner. We have a second bedroom for an office but we currently have a houseguest so I am thinking of combining the office with the living room like in the photo above. How do you keep the wheels of the chair from messing up the hardwood floors? Mine screwed up the floor in the office so I got a little protective mat, but I think that'd look horrible in the living room. That looks nice.
