It's a way to force yourself to be focused with your words. With only 140 characters, you have to be concise! And, if you feel you're getting spammed, simply "unfollow" someone to stop receiving their updates and/or block them from following you. I think Twitter is so not clutter. I didn't want another thing to maintain. But I think Twitter is a minimalist social networking site that functions as a news feed for my personal relationships, interests, and the world at large.
