Workspace of the Week: Simple secretary

This week’s Workspace of the Week is Brave Little Soul’s classic secretary:

I like this office because when it’s not in use, only the chair proclaims that the space is used for work. All office supplies are contained in the cabinet next to the desk, and the computer and printer rest inside the fold-up desk. When work is done, the office disappears. Additionally, the desk itself is free of clutter and provides optimal workspace for its user. This setup is serene and inviting — I would love to work here.

Want to have your own workspace featured in Workspace of the Week? Submit a picture to the Unclutterer flickr pool. Check it out because we have a nice little community brewing there. Also, don’t forget that workspaces aren’t just desks. If you’re a cook, it’s a kitchen; if you’re a carpenter, it’s your workbench.

Very nice. The key is that window letting in the natural light. It makes the whole area feel more “open”.

I like it – I just wish all of my stuff would fit in that little desk. Of course I guess that’s the point of decluttering. :)

Wouldn’t the sun make the laptop too hot? ;) Its definitely very minimalistic!

@b-bo: If you go to the post on Flickr it says that the person found the desk on Craigslist but it came from Ikea.

@FrugalNYC: Not if it’s hidden away during the day! If it sat out 24/7 then possibly…but since the point of the desk is to hide it when it’s not in use I think it’s probably fine. ;)

    Thanks for featuring my desk!

Yes, the desk is an IKEA desk found on craigslist. IKEA discontinued the natural wood option, but they’re still sold in black and white.

Tabitha – My armoire houses tons of stuff. Closed storage is great!

FrugalNYC – I get direct sun for about 3 hours a day. The curtains diffuse the light so my laptop never gets hot.

I’m trying to find a little Secretary desk like this (I can’t rock the black or white… I want a solid wood one)… I think they make such neat work areas for small spaces… I, too, will need an armoire or chest or something for the supplies… this is a really great work area :)

This is one of my favorite features on this site. I’m off to check out the Flickr page for more inspiration.

This seems very uncomfortable…the seat is too high, so the user’s head would be constantly straining to look down towards the laptop.
