Workspace of the Week: An Ikea dreamsicle
This week’s Workspace of the Week is Carlos y Mariola’s orange home office:
The colors in this office make it a fun contribution to our flickr photo pool. The bright orange walls make the white furniture (like the filing cabinet, bookshelf, and cabinet storage) stand out and keep from looking plain. The desk utilizes the under desk storage space and it looks as if everything in this office has a home. Thank you, Carlos y Mariola, for a terrific submission!
Want to have your own workspace featured in Workspace of the Week? Submit a picture to the Unclutterer flickr pool. Check it out because we have a nice little community brewing there. Also, don’t forget that workspaces aren’t just desks. If you’re a cook, it’s a kitchen; if you’re a carpenter, it’s your workbench.

I truly believe bright colors affect your mood in with a positive energy. How could you ever lack energy in this space!

Where is the keyboard? Is it hidden in the desk somewhere?

@Anji — I think the keyboard is between the wood and the glass below the monitor. A cordless keyboard would fit nicely in there when not in use.

Which Ikea pieces are these? I don’t see them anywhere on the website…

@Valerie — Off the top of my head, I don’t know which desk this is, but it looks Matteus-esque. The cabinets are simply bookshelves (my guess is the Billy or BYOM) with doors. The chair looks like a Nominell. The organizers on the shelves are FLYT’s with wrapping paper on them … etc., etc., etc.

Many people use their desks, facing the wall. It feels much more comfortable to sit with your back to the wall.

This is lovely, and I’d never think to put those colors together. Is the floor marble?

Beautiful and cheery set-up there…except…that big boxy Frankenstein PC! Sometimes it’s easy for home office users to miss the CPU when designing the asthetics of the office space. I’d suggest hiding it behind a curtain or door. Otherwise, for some reason, this office design has me craving orange-lime sorbet!

It is two Ikea Vika Annefors pieces at either end with the white/glass thing put on top of them as the desk top part.

Anne, I agree that it is more comfortable to face the room. I never get to do this because, even though computer monitors are not great to look at from the front, they are terrible to look at from the back!
The best I could do is a corner desk (Ikea Galant) so I can change my view to two walls!

Beautiful!

A corner desk often works well because you can see to the sides yet have room to scoot back in your chair. Fun colors in this room. Maybe some more storage tho…

The desktop is called Vika Gruvan ($169 from Ikea Australia) and the bottom sections are called Vika Amon and/or Vika Annefors.
Been wanting the table top myself to do some modifications too, of which when I complete I’ll add to the Flickr photos and tidy up my work area
