I'm very sad that he's gone. We were fans for a long, long time, until we saw him in concert a few months back. I thought I was really over being a fan, until hearing that he'd passed. He did many brilliant funny things over the span of his career, and I'd forgotten how much I adored his character in Bill & Ted. So sorry to hear he's gone. =(

@Lisa -- Thomas the Tank Engine was created by the Reverend Wilbert V. Awdry, who passed away in the late 1990s.

David Mitton, who directed & produced the television show "Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends" is the one who passed away recently. However, his death preceded Carlin's by about a month.

Britt Allcroft, who created the tv show is alive.

Yes, I know WAY too much about this, but my son is just now growing out of his Thomas mania.

On topic -- although I love "Stuff" and "Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television", I will always remember Carlin for his role in "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure"

Party on, Rufus!

I mourned his death by dusting off the seven dirty words I don't normally use in front of my children.
What a mind, what a character. He will be missed.

I had the good fortune to see George Carlin live in a small nightclub, just before he became so popular that he started packing much larger venues. He was tremendously funny. His "Stuff" routine is more timely than ever. Timeless, in fact.

I came across his "Religion" sketch a few years ago. This is only the second of his works I've seen (plus a few more on YouTube tonight). What a great guy! There aren't enough of him in this world.

George Carlin was one of a kind. I cried last night when I heard the news. He was truly a national treasure.

Carlin's "Stuff" routine is the most appropriate remembrance I can think of for Unclutterer. I loved his work, and will miss him greatly. His humor has always resonated with me. Whenever I've had to deal with the loss of a pet I'm reminded of how he called them, "little tragedies". Godspeed George, I'm hoping you've gone to a better place.

My kids reminded me that he also played the kind and gentle Mr. Conductor on PBS's Shining Time Station. The story's creator (and that of Thomas the Tank Engine) also died yesterday - from a heart attack - at age 69. So sad.

I mourn his loss, too. I was shocked to hear the news. His excellent routine about a place for our stuff was probably my very first introduction to the problem of clutter -- though I didn't even realize it at the time. It was decades before I grasped the gravity of his jokes. And many more years still before I actually started to change my cluttering ways, thanks in part to the seeds he planted. Here's to the memory of George Carlin and to his ability to make our problems funny enough to bear the criticisms aimed directly at us, as individuals and as a people -- even if we didn't fully get it at the time!
