I figured it out: it’s for people who have (two) prosthetic arms…or LITTLE kids…those are the only two uses I could think of that would be REMOTELY useful for this. Good choice! *grin*

OMG! I was given FOUR of these a few years ago. They were huge and spotted likea cow. I had no idea what to tell the person who gave them to me (my MIL) but needless to say they ended up in the donate pile. Ug!

OMG, now I really have to rant, b/c this is so funny (Erin, how did you know I was just listening to “Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me?”..oh that’s right b/c we are the SAME PERSON)…

Apparently, so say the NPR WWDTM pundits, recently the President’s Council on Bioethics released a 600-ish page report entitled Human Dignity and Bioethics (Something like that). Leon Kass, founding director of the Council, has trouble with a lot of things, but most of all…with LICKING ICE CREAM IN PUBLIC. Yes, I was just listening to the WWDTM podcast on this and then signed on to your Unitasker — so I went to Google and found the quote… Here it is (after his rant about women who “choose to remain single” and not bear children in their 20s, mind you…)

“…Worst of all from this [dignity's] point of view are those more uncivilized forms of eating, like licking an ice cream cone – a catlike activity that has been made acceptable in informal America but that still offends those who know eating in public is offensive. … Eating on the street–even when undertaken, say, because one is between appointments and has no other time to eat–displays [a] lack of self-control: It beckons enslavement to the belly. … Lacking utensils for cutting and lifting to mouth, he will often be seen using his teeth for tearing off chewable portions, just like any animal. … This doglike feeding, if one must engage in it, ought to be kept from public view, where, even if we feel no shame, others are compelled to witness our shameful behavior.”

This is, of course, the President’s advisor on bioethics – a position from which he convinced the president to outlaw federally-funded research that used new stem-cell lines.

Think he’d go for the ice cream spinner???

standing with clevermom! I too am a unitasking mom, who has to spin her children’s cone with a quick lick to keep the child who for some reason doesn’t realize the other side of the cone is melting! Does anyone have the age when that clicks in a kid? Does the oozing melting icecream ever begin to feel on their hand? For that matter, why don’t kids feel the icecream on thier chins or other facial places?

What? Not only is it a unitasker (and not even a particularly useful task at that), but it also ROBS you of the joy of chomping on your waffle cone. Especially one of those well-designed ones where the hole at the bottom is plugged with chocolate. Mmm, chocolate.
