Workspace of the Week: Bedroom office
This week’s Workspace of the Week is Barb_McMahon’s sun drenched bedroom office:
This space has so much character, personality, and sense of calm that I imagine a bedroom could still be a sanctuary with it being present. Usually, I’m opposed to having offices in bedrooms because I feel that the purpose of a bedroom is for rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation. However, nothing about this office screams distraction or annoyance. I really like the old window frame around the dry erase board to make it feel warm instead of stale. Barb, this is an inspiring space! Thank you for sharing it with us.

Also, don’t forget that workspaces aren’t just desks. If you’re a cook, it’s a kitchen; if you’re a carpenter, it’s your workbench.

Is it an old window frame around a dry erase board, or simply an old window attached to the wall? Window glass with a light backdrop is a really effective space for taking notes. And, depending how you acquire the window, virtually free. You may even be able to make use of an existing window in the room. I have used dry erase markers to write notes on the window in front of my desk.

This is a really nice space. I’ve been struggling with carving out a space in my small house, and though I have room in my bedroom, I’ve been resistant to working in my “rest space”. I need to take another look. I have a perfect corner that looks much like the one featured here, and right now it’s occupied by laundry…
Thanks

I too am struggling with a bedroom office, resisting having it there, but realizing it’s the space that makes the most sense for now.
This is very nice - and so tidy! I think that’s half the battle, keeping a bedroom office tidy so you’re not looking at a pile of undone work.

This is very pretty and calming. I love the iron table with the marble top — a great idea I might steal for my own…

‘Tis so sunny and neat, I want to work there!
I wonder though if the table isn’t too high for comfy typing?

I like that all the pieces are different, yet they work together.

Thanks for featuring my workspace, Unclutterer! And for all the lovely compliments!
To answer your questions - it’s just an old window. With the light wall colour behind it, it works well.
The fact that my dest is the first thing I see when I wake up in the morning is a huge incentive to keep things tidy.
And I’m very tall, so typing isn’t a problem for me.

OK, so I have to ask, Barb — how tall is “very tall”? I’m 6′2″ and my husband actually built me a desk so that it was tall enough for me to be comfy typing at it. We are also increasing the height throughout our kitchen counters, bathroom counters, etc. (s-l-o-w-l-y) so that we don’t feel like Gulliver when we’re chopping onions or washing hands.

lovely - very creative, calming space…and a good incentive to unclutter my own so that I can feel comfortable posting a picture!

This is something my wife and I have discussed doing once our third child is born, simply to clear out a room that could potentially be used as a bedroom or nursery.

Hi, I found this blog through Barb McMahon’s blog. I’m moving to a smaller home this year, and I can tell that I will get lots of good ideas from your posts and the comments.

I love it! I have old windows in my garage, I’m definitely going to make a dry-erase board out of it. Great ideas!
