I have a high ceiling in my galley-style bathroom, so I hung brackets high up on the wall and made a long shelf that covers the length of the wall. I put Ikea rattan baskets up there and it holds all my TP, hair supplies, gardening tools, etc. I just love it!

Have you seen this?

I don't have anything to do with this company financially, but have used them for several remodeling projuects here in Orlando.

The prices are great, the products are well made with real wood and made here in the US.

My husband and I have a really small bathroom, but we make it work just fine. I will admit that we have a stack of a few white plastic "shoe" boxes that contain the extra toiletries that we're working through. It's tucked up against the wall beside the cabinet. On that I have my homemade makeup binder.

Having that stack, though, let's us just keep the stuff we currently use in the cabinets, which actually isn't that much. Plus, another thing that helps is that we keep drugs and vitamins out of the bathroom (they shouldn't be there anyway because of heat and humidity).

We've been making a point to keep the counters as clear as possible. Around the sink we just have a soap dispenser, a lotion dispenser, and a soap dish. We even keep our toothbrush holder in the medicine cabinet. On the corner cabinet, I have a small basket with our brushes. Then on the wall I have a hair dryer holder that also holds a few combs, a few hair products, and my hair iron.

On the back of the toilet I have a basket with hand towels and wash cloths, and the other towels are tucked into the corner cabinet.

One thing that has helped is that we do have a linen closet, though we hardly need it any more because we have room elsewhere. But I hung a shoe organizer on the inside of the door and keep all sorts of things in those pockets like vitamins we don't use regularly, nail polish remover bottles, etc.

I moved into a smaller place almost two months ago and lost some bathroom storage. I reduced the amount of clutter and put everything in the drawers using dividers. Everything is so easy to find now. I want to get a small linen cabinet, but I haven't found one I like yet.

If you have a tiny tiny bathroom, and you rent or something and can't hang things on the walls, an Etagere is a good solution - it's a free-standing cabinet that has room for your toilet to sit underneath it. My SIL used one when she was in base housing for a while.
Here are a bunch at Target:

I've also seen hanging fruit baskets used successfully. You know, the wire kind with two or three baskets, where each basket is larger than the one above it. This works in even the tiniest space, as long as you can get a hook into the ceiling.

"preferably one for each person — one drawer can hold Mom’s hair-care essentials, for instance, while another contains the kids’ bath toys"

I love the oblique suggestion that Dad doesn't need a drawer :)

My wife and I each have a basket/container for our bathroom stuff (mine is considerably smaller than hers). :) I stick my deodorant, hair gunk, cologne, etc. in the basket and stick the basket in a drawer.

When I need my stuff I pull it out, use it, put it in the basket and stick it back in the drawer. It's a simple way to keep our extremely small counter decluttered and our drawers organized.

Bonus: it also makes it easy to pack when leaving on a trip. :)

The house where I babysit has the coolest bathroom storage. The toilet is right by the shower, kinda parallel to it I guess. so then above the toilet in the wall behind the shower where all the pipes are there is a pull out cabinet that goes the entire length of wall behind the shower. I'm not sure that this explanation makes sense, it's kinda hard to explain without drawing a picture or something. When I first pulled the handle I thought that it would be a shallow medecine cabinet but instead it kept on rolling out. i'm pretty sure my jaw dropped.

We found the IKEA Aneboda series to be ideal for our bathroom -- the pieces are quiet narrow, but still deep. Also, the drawers are deep so most bottles can be stored upright. This collection is a bit hard to find since it's marketed as bedroom furniture. Oh, and no piece is more than $80!!

I found some extra bathroom space when I tossed my old lipsticks - some dating to 1997. There's a photo of the pile here http://onebagnation.wordpress.com/2008/04/06/less-lipstick/, now reduced to just four. No more new lipstick until I finish at least one of the four!

We had no storage, no cabinet and a pedestal sink. Our solution was to get thrifted mini shelves (I think one is actually a spice shelf with a towel bar) and the Ikea Benno CD tower. That's the only standing shelf that would fit into our teeny tiny bathroom (where you actually have to sit kiddy korner on the toilet because your knees bang into the wall!).

We have a very small bathroom. The bath goes along the far wall, then the sink overlaps both the bath and the toilet!

I found these fantastic, they are on the wall over the bath - opposite the taps.

<a href="http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/S99825413" rel="nofollow">Ikea Vattern</a>

we have two, you can't reach the top of the top one unless you're stood in the bath but that works if you're in the shower!

There are different door styles. We got these:
<a href="http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/S99809601" rel="nofollow">Ikea Vattern Door</a>

A lot of containers designed for scrapbooking are great for bathroom storage, they've got just the right sized compartments for all the little bathroom odds and ends.

I also use votive holders (another Martha Stewart tip) for loose items like nail clippers, cotton balls, and q-tips.

We found a great solution--a cabinet that hangs over the toilet to use up that "wasted" space. Not necessarily cheap because it was custom made, but it's shallow enough to not hit your head and goes up to the ceiling, making three shelves tall enough and deep enough to hold two packages of toilet paper.
