I'm kicking myself for not understanding how gmail labels work before this morning.

I've shaved my Inbox from 160+ to 45 messages, and I'm keeping most of those right now because I have other, more pressing things to finish on my to-do list today.

Enjoyed your guest post on The Simple Dollar, Erin! I commented there, but hope you don't mind a repeat of my thoughts here.

Your "mindful consumer" has the same concern as my "thoughtful consumer," i.e., realize the importance of thinking before buying in order to make wiser choices. I agree that those loss of focus moments diminish along with the elimination of clutter, but mindfulness definitely requires a life-long commitment. Quite a challenge! I'm often frustrated by my failures, but I think it's worth it to keep trying.

Also, I had the pleasure of being interviewed last June by finance blogger Nina Smith for her Ten Money Questions series. We discussed the relationship between spending and thoughtful consuming. For interested readers, here's the link: Ten Money Questions

Thanks!

Without being needlessly cantankerous, I disagree with your statement that something "is only clutter if someone didn't want it." The task of uncluttering is putting things that you do want into their place. That's why I put my clothing in the closet and unclutterer in my RSS reader.

@Steven -- If you subscribe to our blog through an RSS feeder, then there isn't any reason to subscribe to the e-mail feed ... it would be getting the same content twice.

However, getting Unclutterer content only through an e-mail isn't any different than getting it in an RSS feed. It's the exact same text. It would only be clutter if someone didn't want it.

Plus, you may get a lot more e-mails than other people. Where you get hundreds, someone else may only get one or two. Different people, different solutions.

Seems counter to the purpose of the site. My inbox filling up with unclutterer e-mails = clutter.
