I love this idea. I wish they did the same thing with my daughter's trundle bed. Because it's a trundle, the bed is quite high. I would love it if one of the drawers rolled out so she could use it as a step stool. For now, I just move the step stool every night away from her bed. My fear is that she will fall out of bed and clock her head on the stool.

A step stool won't fit under our bathroom sinks. I think this would be a neat thing to build with convertible steps/drawers if you were redoing a bathroom or building a home. Of course, my two year old daughter is so short, she'd need two steps!

Paul -
So this little girl didn't invent anything new?
http://web.mit.edu/invent/iow/low.html
The drawer stool does seem a little safer than a stool that folds out, possibly onto a sibling's foot. However, a hinged folding stool is something that I might actually be able to build, and for about $15.

Growing up, we had an 'L' shaped stool inside of the cabinet that was connected using a piano hinge. We would have to open up the doors to flip it down, but mom never had to go searching through the house to find where the stool went.

Um, is it just me or is that no more efficient than storing a stool under the sink?

I remember seeing a DIY article about this many years ago. It involved reinforcing and flipping over a drawer and adding heavy duty rubber wheels. The drawer stop also has to be pretty strong so the wheels don't slip and send your child shooting across the floor and cracking her head on the bath tub or toilet. Of course, Pottery Barn will do it all for you for a hefty price.

I love that. My kids both have their own "stools". They are very cute but always in the wrong place, always in the way, always getting shoved around the room, and they totally trash the paint on the bathroom cabinets. Yuck.

The idea of its being convertible is very appealing (don't know if it is but the commenter above suggested that and it's great!

Excellent idea! When kids are all grown up you might be able to turn it over and use it as a drawer.
