@Jenn: *All* of it. Even the marriage certificate is scanned, but that and a few others didn’t go into the shredder. Otherwise it all gets scanned.

I don’t mean to be a complete moron – but what kind of paperwork are you scanning and then shredding? My husband – a self-confessed piler – doesn’t have any faith in me when I tell him that we can rid ourselves of the piles and piles of paper we have.

I agree with scanning in documents — but here’s another thought: If you have access to a copying machine with a document feeder, you can scan your paperwork and create a PDF of it.

I couldn’t stomach the $400 price tag so I bought mine off of eBay. After a couple weeks of searching I found one for only $200, and it was new. I made 2 bankers boxes of papers disappear in a couple hours with my ScanSnap… awesome. But be sure to have some sort of backup for your files, cause when they’re gone, they’re gone!

I know this doesn’t get you referrer cash, but Newegg has them way, way cheaper (about $350 after shipping):

(For what it’s worth, that doesn’t get -me- any referrer cash, either. I’m just looking at getting one of these and $450ish seemed like a very sizable chunk of change to be tossing out for one.)

Please excuse my broken language as I am French. I don’t know this object but I would be sure it’s a good idea. I have old documents (Multiplan douments done in 1995 ) which are no longer readable since I’ve changed my PC and I can’t incorporate them in my Excel base. So I’m a bit suspicious about destroying main papers and having them only in PDF version. I wonder too, if instead of hoarding home I wouldn’t hoard my PC with unnecessary documents.
