2007 Gift Giving Guide: Ultimate generosity

When people ask me what is the single best organization tool I own, I do not hesitate to say the Fujitsu ScanSnap (I own a Mac version, but there is also one Vista compatible for the PC). I purchased it while doing research for Unclutterer’s Paper clutter begone! series, and continue to be fully satisfied with the purchase. It is definitely the single best organization product I have purchased this year.

Until I purchased it, paper clutter was my biggest thorn in my side. My desk was stacked with piles and piles of papers to be sorted and filed. My filing cabinet was crammed to its breaking point. My office was a complete disaster. The ScanSnap actually changed the way I do work and manage my home office.

If you’re looking to give the ultimate organization gift this holiday season, I strongly recommend considering the Fujitsu ScanSnap (Mac and PC). Also, if you don’t have one, you may think about sneaking it onto your list!

Please excuse my broken language as I am French. I don’t know this object but I would be sure it’s a good idea. I have old documents (Multiplan douments done in 1995 ) which are no longer readable since I’ve changed my PC and I can’t incorporate them in my Excel base. So I’m a bit suspicious about destroying main papers and having them only in PDF version. I wonder too, if instead of hoarding home I wouldn’t hoard my PC with unnecessary documents.
Many thanks for this blog I discoverd a few weeks ago.

I know this doesn’t get you referrer cash, but Newegg has them way, way cheaper (about $350 after shipping):

(For what it’s worth, that doesn’t get -me- any referrer cash, either. I’m just looking at getting one of these and $450ish seemed like a very sizable chunk of change to be tossing out for one.)

    Cheers!

Thank you for this post! I have been looking for just the right vehicle to steer my clients when they say they want to go paperless (I own an organizing company). It will definitely make it to our company Christmas list!

If you buy one before Dec. 31, Fujitsu is offering a $50 rebate on the Scansnap 510 and $25 more if you buy a service contract for it. Here’s a link to the rebate form: http://www.fujitsu.com/us/serv.....bates.html

There’s a possibility that you can save an additional $50 by using PayPal to purchase the Scansnap at NewEgg.com:

I couldn’t stomach the $400 price tag so I bought mine off of eBay. After a couple weeks of searching I found one for only $200, and it was new. I made 2 bankers boxes of papers disappear in a couple hours with my ScanSnap… awesome. But be sure to have some sort of backup for your files, cause when they’re gone, they’re gone!

I agree with scanning in documents — but here’s another thought: If you have access to a copying machine with a document feeder, you can scan your paperwork and create a PDF of it.

    thank you!

I don’t mean to be a complete moron – but what kind of paperwork are you scanning and then shredding? My husband – a self-confessed piler – doesn’t have any faith in me when I tell him that we can rid ourselves of the piles and piles of paper we have.

@Jenn: *All* of it. Even the marriage certificate is scanned, but that and a few others didn’t go into the shredder. Otherwise it all gets scanned. :)

    Hello.
I was wondering if you recommend the Fujitsu ScanSnap for professional use (in a dentist office)?
    Thank you.
