Workspace of the Week: Minimalist Desk
This week’s Workspace of the Week is Lucy’s 10 Lives’s minimalist desk.
This isn’t the most unclutered workspace I’ve ever seen, but there’s still something very charming about it. I like the symmetry bewteen the right side of her desk with the walls and the open desktop on the left for multi-purpose workspace. I find it comforting.
Want to have your own workspace featured in Workspace of the Week? Submit a picture to the Unclutterer flickr pool. Check it out because we have a nice little community brewing there. Also, don’t forget that workspaces aren’t just desks. If you’re a cook, it’s a kitchen; if you’re a carpenter, it’s your workbench.

Now, that’s a workspace I can relate to. I never like clutter, no matter how busy I am.

Personally, I think the space could be improved by placing the paper boxes (shown on the right hand side of the desk) in storage either inside the desk or above it. This to me represents clutter on the actual work space… And, the pictures to me are askew — and should be centered above the desk. I wouldn’t be happy with this set-up…

I don’t like this one. Big pile of crap on the right and then nothing on the left.
I like a nice clear desk, but I wouldn’t want a ton of distracting junk to my right while I’m working.

Geez, people. It’s not a “pile of crap” – there’s useful stuff there. I see an organized paper-holder, a rolodex, one picture frame and a radio.
Having the papers within easy reach is, in a way, more organized than having to reach down/walk to another storage area whenever you need something.
Plus, there’s a place on the wall to hang headphones – eliminating cord clutter.
OCD much?

Also, who says the pictures “should be centered above the desk”? It’s not your desk, so it’s not your call.

@Jerry
I did! Flickr is Pirates Knit With Yarrrn!
@Stephanie
I’d say pile of stuff, but I like the word crap better. My point was it’s all just piled up on the right. I like where she has the pictures.
Just not all that junk on the desk.

Is she left handed? This set up works great, in my opinion, for opening up space on the left side. I find that I have a similar setup at home … everything’s on the left hand side of my desk because I’m right handed and need the right side of my desk to remain clear for writing and such.

That’s asymmetry, no?

It looks very cold and un welcoming. not cluttered does not mean its a good working environment!

I wish some of my counterparts would catch on to the methodology of simplistic workspaces. Or maybe just organized and clutter free. I’v printed several of the pics from the flickr group and added them to the obviously unattended in-boxes around the office. Recon anyone will know what the pics mean?
