The skinny on wall decals
Wall decals let you decorate without drilling holes or painting, and a little while back Erin wrote-up a comprehensive post about them. Well, I got some myself to see what all the fuss was about and shot this little video for your amusement.

Several of the last few apartments I’ve lived in have textured walls. Any hints for affixing decals to surfaces that aren’t so nicely flat?

…and how easily do the decals peel away from the wall surface when a change wanted or need for removal? Would the time adhering–one year verses longer duration–affect the removal process? Otherwise, decals could offer personal design choices. Will check out sites for various wall decals, murals available.
Thanks.

How easy are they to peel off the wall later?
I have a collection of paintings so I usually hang stuff on the walls anyway. Nail holes are tiny and easy to plug up with a little spackle. Every lease I’ve had, they’ve offered to throw in a free coat of paint or free touch-ups when I moved out.

Based on the links you posted that time, I decorated my sons’ room with monster clings and was the very first customer who got the clings on removeable vinyl from the company, meaning I can move them around very easily. They are incredible and I think you so much for finding them for me.

Best use of a Moleskine notebook I’ve seen for a while.

Where does one find removable vinyl decals? (Too lazy to search for manufacturers.) Vinyl would provide ability to rearrange positioning (should minds be changed re design placement). Vinyl seems easier, more effective than rub ons presented. Put on, peel off. Place again. Appreciated Kris’
post.

@Veronica–Almost all of the companies I wrote about in my previous post on this issue (the link is in Jerry’s post here) produce removable vinyl decals.

I ordered my clings from popcling.com.
This is one of the designs we purchased:

And this is the other:

My sons LOVE them and want more of them. I’m waiting until the artist comes out with another set that’s different from what we’ve already purchased.

Augh! I’m sorry, but this was painful to watch! There is a much easier way to apply these decals to you wall (or any flat surface).
Take the decal and two or three pieces of masking tape and apply it to the front (protective surface or premask, as it can be called) stick it gently to the wall and use a measuring tape to make it level on the wall (if you want it to be straight). Once you have it in place, make sure the masking tape is sticking to both the decal and the wall, grab the decal from the bottom (untaped side) flip it up, remove the backing and grab both corners of the premask and bring the decal down to the wall (flat). With a credit card (or more properly, a tool called a squeegee you can get at a sign place) work from the inside out pressing the decal to the wall. When it’s applied, remove the premask by starting at one corner and keep the premask close to the wall (don’t yank and pull it away!) and peel it off. Voila! Applied decal!
I apply these for some of my clients and have my own vinyl cutter, so take it from me, don’t make it too painful for yourself!

hey! I have that game on my palm pilot.
Where did you get the decals? Do decals work on papered walls? I would love to get some.

Erin, Thanks for the info. Are we able to make these type of decals at home using a printer at home? Any ideas from anyone as to what type of paper to purchase at a Office Depot/Staples kind of store would be very helpful as trying to keep within a budget!
