100 reasons to get rid of it
I don’t subscribe to Martha Stewart Living or its spinoff Blueprint, but I get their newsletters by e-mail. I’m always amazed by Ms. Stewart and her staff’s creativity. Yesterday’s e-mail newsletter included a link to the article “100 Reasons to Get Rid of It.”
The article is, as its title implies, a list of 100 reasons to get rid of extraneous stuff in your home. Well, that’s not fully accurate … around number 84 it takes a strange diversion … but, by number 87 it seems to be back on track. I think that number 100 is my favorite reason, and number 50 is a close second.
Check out the list if you’re looking for uncluttering inspiration.

I was a little disappointed to find that it’d take 9 pages to print out the list, but then I ealized that one page or nine, it would just be another article I was saving… 8>)
(I did bookmark it, though…)

I love #50 and 100 as well. I just did a huge cleaning of my place and got ride of 30% of things I’ve been keeping for no reason.

I think that 86 is right on track… Anyone who has seen Grey Gardens –or knows that story of Jackie O’s family could easily have an aversion to ending up like Big and Little Edie. The two lived in horrible conditions in a house in the Hamptons.

Let’s hear it for #80 and uncluttered mail boxes! Most of my paper recycling is junk mail. What a waste!
@repsac3 — Eventually the list will be taken down. You could also copy and past each page of listings into a word doc and save it on your computer.

@repsac3
Tip:
To save the list I was going to suggest clicking the “print” button (on the page, not in your browser toolbar) and then saving that consolidated list page (as a PDF through your print dialog box, or web archive, or just easier copying and pasting). But clicking “print” doesn’t give you the full list. I’ve never seen that before! On virtually every other site (esp. newspapers) it’s a good shortcut to keep in mind.

5. Publicstorage.com: Lock it up in more than 2,100 locations around the U.S.
That’s not really getting rid of stuff, that’s just moving it.

@Melissa –
Ack!! I agree that number 5 is a bad idea! Somehow that one didn’t register when I read it.

Actually I know someone who does pay someone to come take her “junk” (or I should say… her husband’s junk) every year or two. She waits till he goes out of town. It’s fast and she’s DONE! He’s a HUGE pack rat

Not surprisingly, there’s no mention of stopping your subscriptions to the print versions of magazines and reading them online…
